hello sorry havent been on for a wile ,travelling in to london to work seams to wear me out,and when l get home l just flop in frount off the tv like a zombie:( havent been very well lately keep getting viruses , had lots off tests ,ie camera down the throat , due for a blood test ,bean diabete are we prown to viruse?

Before being diagnosed as being diabetic I rarely went to the docs, since then some times it feels as though I live there. Things for me take longer to get over now on 18 different prescriptions (though 2 are strips & lancets).

Fair enough some of the meds I could well be on if not diabetic, but most are related to diabetes or the after effects of being diabetic.

Sorry to hear that you're suffering. :( How are your blood sugar levels? Running high can affect your ability to fight off infections of all kinds, and also cause tiredness on top of that.

having diabetes doesn'nt mean we are any more prone to getting viruses than anyone else, but if we have poor control it is more difficult to fight them off.

I have worked in central London most of my working life and it can be exhausting atthe best of times. My things for coping are to make sure I have proper lunch and leave my desk for a short break on a regular basis.

I'm not clear on one thing, do you travel to work to an office or shop or something or is traveling part of your job like a courier or delivery person?

I hope you feel better soon

Sounds like your feeling unwell started before the hot weather started, but most people are finding themselves feeling tired due to heat. I can still remember the 3 summers I spent working as a nurse in London, lomng before I had diabetes. These days, I wouldn't want to be in London more than essential - although coped fine with Games Maker shifts during Olympics & Paralympics. With diabetes, keeping blood glucose levels as near normal as possible, by a combination of exercise, sensible eating and medication is vital - if you can achieve that, then there's no reason why you should feel unwell, nor be any more prone to getting infections or suffering worse than anyone else if you do catch something.

While flopping in front of TV is appealing, if you can make use of the cooler air of evening (or getting up early to use morning coolness) for a walk / bike ride etc, then overall you will feel better.

not office worker

hi caroline thanks for your reply no l dont work some where l can just take breaks when ever , my job is meanly on my feet all daylike shop floor, l do get the normal 3 breaks mon ,lunch etc, but l will be retireing in a years time as lm 60, and hope never to set foot in london again 🙄

how understanding is your manager? Perhaps it is possible to split your breaks a bit more so instead of an hour for lunch you take half an hour and take another half an hour another time?

A year is not so long and everyone I know who has retired feels a lot better for it, the traveling always got them down.
