At risk of diabetes
Hi all

I’m Debbie and I was diagnosed pre diabetic a few days ago (notified by text message) which came as a huge shock. I didn’t see it coming and although I’ve been suffering with extreme fatigue I also have ME/CFS so put it down to that. I have a question to ask as I’m a tad worried … did any of you also have high levels of vit B12? I’ve checked with Dr Google and he’s come back with lots of nasties but there’s also mention of diabetes on one or two sites.

Hope you’re enjoying what’s left of a sunny weekend

Hi Debbie, welcome to the forums, I am only recently diagnosed T2 and learning so I can't answer your question, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who will be able to 🙂

Welcome to the forum @Dizzydora

And what a way to be told the news!!

Were you told the result of your HbA1c check? If you have been told you are at risk of developing diabetes this will be a number between 42 and 47.

Many members have joined having been told they are ‘at risk’ and have been able to make modest changes to their menu and see positive results and many have steered their levels away from a full-blown diagnosis of diabetes.

Sorry to hear you are also living with ME/CFS. That can be so difficult, and is still so poorly understood.

B12 worries are often related to low vit B12 (which can associate with long term metformin use). I suspect Dr Google may simply be a source of worry and stress - so your questions are probably better answered by your GP or practice nurse?

Thank you for your replies and the warm welcome

My Hb whatsit when I checked my results online was 42 so only just at risk. I’m having a full mot tomorrow, bloods, bp, height, weight and bmi done. Not sure why, receptionist rang to book appointment but couldn’t tell me reason for it but I’ll ask the nurse.

I'll steer clear of self diagnosis from now on. Am supposed to be seeing the gp to discuss the B12 result but it’s like plaiting fog try to get an appointment.

Not sure why,
I guess because now you're pre diabetic (so there are probably things they want to consider recommending) and you're over 50 so maybe there's some automatic health check thing they think they ought to be providing. (Or it's a combination of the two.)
