Easier for a T1 with a healthy strip-allowance, but I tend to test around 6-10 times a day. I used to test slightly less, but over the past 2 years I've been tightening things up and that's meant more strips.

On waking, before each meal, after some meals, before bed. Plus other sundry hypo checks, testing before driving etc.

Do you test meals even though you know don't increase you're sugars? Also, do you test immediately you wake up and then prior to breakfast because what would cause an increase between these times...would say a cup of tea in bed????

Sometimes yes. I can affrod to be a bit more relaxed about post meal testing having spent a couple of years trying to squash spikes, but not always. Sometimes it's useful for me to have a 2 hour check just to make sure the injected insulin is behaving as expected, I counted and calculated the meal dose correctly etc.

As for pre-breakfast tests, I spent a lot of time (and strips) on this as it's my trickiest time of the day. I often leave a long delay between injecting and eating - 45 minutes or more - and (esp if I've started out a bit high) it can be useful to test on waking, then again before eating carbs just to see whether the insulin has started working yet.

As a type one on a pump I test around 10ish times a day...

My diet hasn't really changed a lot, I was never really a fizzy drinker nor had a craving for sweet foods, two exceptions though I did take sugar in my coffee and was partial to a Cream Egg or two😱

My first coffee without sugar in was awful, and when it was no better with a sweetner in it, I cried my eyes out thinking I wouldn't enjoy coffee ever again in my life😱 Now I can smell if somebody put sugar in my coffee, and if I take a slurp it really makes me feel sick due to it's sweetness...

And well the Cream Egg, didn't have one for many years but in 2008 when I did my DAFNE course I did try one after not had one since as way too sweet yulk...

But you do find that because you don't do the sweet things, that your taste buds do change over time.. So where you might have had a a all chocolate bar or something like an sneaker.. You hop for something a lot kinder on the system such as a kitkat instead.. Or decied to go for a dark chocolate rather than a rich milk chocolate

Immediately after diagnosis I tested once per day at different times.

More recently I average one test per week. But it is usually a series of tests on the same day and then a gap of around a month.

But that is only because my levels are precisely where I want them at the moment. The HbA1c test usually confirms that, but I'm not due another until mid-December.

Andy 🙂

It depends - minimum 4 a day, sometimes more, because of exercise.
