Type 2
Hi There
I have been suffering from Type 2 diabetes for about 20 years now and have only just joined, something I should have done a long time ago
I will be posting on the general forum shortly for advice concerning taking vitamins, I take pills to keep my diabetes under control and do exercise
John

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum, I have had Type 2 Diabetes since September 2015.

I would be interested in the link between vitamins and Type 2 Diabetes and what benefits can be achieved by taking vitamins, alongside Metformin and Rampiril (High Blood Pressure).

Welcome to the forum @John C

How have you found things over the last 20 years? Have they stayed fairly constant, or have you gradually moved fro one sort of diabetes treatment / management to another.

Which tablets do you take?

Look forward to hearing more from you in the coming weeks / months.

Hi John, welcome to the forum. 🙂

In answer to your question, you won’t need any additional vitamins if you eat a healthy mixed diet, but like many people in these Northern climes, you may be a tad short of Vitamin D, which we have to make through sunlight, or absorb from eggs and chestnut mushrooms, plus a few other sources. For sure, no vitamin supplements will affect diabetic control. I’ve started taking an over fifties VitD3 supplement to make up for the lack of sunlight after a wet winter.

The other point I should make is that if you take a standard Multivitamin preparation, if your body doesn’t need them you will just pee or poo the lot out, not a good use of money.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi, new member here also, recently diagnosed type 2, could someone tell me are Skinny syrups ok to use please.

You'd have to check the carbohydrate content of their products to see whether it's at a level your BG meter tells you your body can cope with - exactly the same as how we assess any other thing we eat.

Looks like carbohydrate is 0.1g per 100g (so 0g per serving). My guess is they're fine unless you happen to not get along with Sucralose (the sweetener) or one of the texture-giving things (like Xanthan gum).
