Hello this is dawn just a question I have just been started on gliclazide 20mg in the morning blood pressure has always been textbook but been checking at home with my own monitor and its too high has anyone else found this seem to much of a coincidence that my blood pressure has all of a sudden gone up like this a few weeks after starting this medication, any thoughts

Hi, Dawn. Welcome to the forum.

I don't think higher BP is a common side effect (what does the leaflet say?) but from what I've read the majority of people with Type 2 will go on to have elevated BP. My BP was normal at diagnosis in March but was above normal at my last DN review 2 weeks ago. Have another review next week and in the meantime am measuring at home and recording levels for the DN.

Hi martin thanks for reply. There is no mention in patient leaflet have been on other forums and some people not long after starting gliclizide they have seen there bp rise, just thought odd just a few weeks on this tablet my bp is now high.I have an active job not overweight have been told by DN that my diabetes is probably genetic as my lifestyle would not suggest i should be diabetic.

Hi Dawn, anecdotal I know but I have been taking gliclazide for six moths or so (currently on 20mg/day) and have actually got rid of one of the pills I was taking for high blood pressure because my BP was, if anything, getting too low. Opposite to you, but then I think it a coincidence than it happened.
