Just Joined need advice on medication or no medication

Indeed if you go Low Carb, which means increasing both Protein and fat, then cutting calories may just harm your metabolic rate for no extra gain.
I didn't realize that, that may be why I felt exercise wasn't working initially. But not anymore aiming for a balanced diet now

As others have said, it is easier on the body, especially the fine blood vessels, to reduce BG gently over a longer period than all at once, so just keep gently tweaking and changing.

Some before/after meal checks might help identify any sources of carb that could do with slightly reduced portion sizes.

If your Bgs begin to behave weirdly and keep rising despite dramatically reduced carb intake, it might be worth asking for a cPeptide test, to check how much insulin you are producing, just in case your type of diabetes and treatment may need looking at - 24 is young for T2, but not impossible, and there are autoimmune forms of diabetes that can look a bit like t2 to start with

Welcome, there is lots of helpful information around this site and lots of helpful people.
I think the 'trick' is to find a 'plan' that will work for you. What worked for me was pretty much cutting all carbs out of my diet, managed to drop my BG's into the 4 range in a couple of weeks - yes it did bugger my eye sight a bit but that would have happened at some point anyway when my glucose levels in my eyes dropped (stupid body shoving glucose everywhere).
Also as glocuse triggers insulin and insulin blocks fat cells it's very tricky to loose weight with high insulin and being overweight causes body to over release insulin causing that vicious circle.
So now year and half in BG's are pretty much always in the 4s (only test first thing in the morning) and weight down alot.
Now I am chasing that elusive BMI of 'normal' so close yet so far 🙄

I cannot give @karloc a 'Like' for that although he's encouraging you - for the simple reason that he IS only telling you about what he did and what happened to him.

BUT it remains that lowering your blood glucose suddenly, can cause very long lasting damage to eyesight (ie you're stuck with the damage for the rest of your life) and it depends on how severe the damage is, as to whether there's any chance at all of reversing it at all.

You are young! We have several grandkids now in the same age or older than yourself, so that little phrase 'The rest of your life' should be a very long time I'd jolly well hope!

So, p-l-e-a-s-e, don't try to sort it all out PDQ for your own sake. That's all. Just don't want anything horrid happening for you. Good luck and try to enjoy the journey in front of you!
 
I am only qualified to tell my story, I have not medical training so only offer my experience.
I was not aware that lowering blood glucose suddenly could cause eye sight damage - only that high blood glucose was causing damage. My doctors, nurses, opticians never mentioned that either, maybe I should speak to them about that, just that my blood glucose needed to drop. I did stop taking metformin almost straight away and did not exercise so is was just the pace my body was using up the glucose.
