I thought I had a spare cartridge of insulin in my handbag so am at work now. only had 8 units left in my pen, so stabbed that (sugars were 22.9!, I know, I know)

I have an emergency stash of insulin in the fridge at work so just loaded cartridge into my pen and didn't think anything of it.

now I feel sick, have had the runs, but my sugars are back within range. what can I do?

Hope you feel better soon. I would ring your diabetic nurse - do you have one ? Or a number for the diabetic clinic in your local hospital ? Or maybe ring 111 just to be sure you have bounced it off someone.

Probably nothing to do with the insulin being out of date, after all it worked - but I think that - well I know that - rubber can deteriorate over time and becomes gas permeable - hence why gas hoses on camping cookers and the like need to be replaced every few years - the gas leaks through the porous hose.

So it is remotely possible I suppose that something COULD have got in, but I've never actually heard of anyone that happening to.

I hope you’re better soon. I’d call your out of hrs gp service if I were you.

Their seems to be no end of fun 😱 we can have with insulin
Thanks for reminding me, when I went onto reusable pens I kept one or two disposable pens as a backup just incase, I’ve had them nearly two years now so I think I’d better check the expirey date
