Hi all,

I've just been diagnosed, I'm waiting on seeing the doctor tomorrow for info on what type I have and what my next steps will be but I feel totally floored by the news.

Someone pointed me in the direction of this forum as they said it was a great source of information so I'm here to have a nose about

Hello Tally,
I was diagnosed last week and can confirm that this forum is full of lovely people happy to share their experiences and make suggestions. I don't have the experience to offer much help - other than to say you are not alone, to start with it is very daunting and there is information overload but even one week has been enough to make me feel more confident and less in shock.
Stick around and, when you are diagnosed with a specific type of diabetes, folk will be able to talk with you and guide you on this journey.
Take care 🙂

Thank you It's nice to know that I'm not alone in feeling overwhelmed, and I'm hoping that once I have more info on what type it is I'll feel more in control if that makes sense

It makes perfect sense. Until you know exactly what you are dealing with you can't deal with it 😉 You will gain control in time.

Hello Tally and a warm welcome to our friendly & supportive forum. You wont be alone on your Diabetes journey because we as a forum are collectively here to help & guide you. Being dx (diagnosed) comes as a shock doesnt it - initially it is a daunting prospect - overwhelming - confusing - but worry no more Tally ~ you are amongst friends here.

When I was dx in April 2016 I couldn't believe what my DSN (Diabetes Specialist Nurse) was telling me. I was in shock - and went into complete denial ~ that is until I joined this forum in January which is one of the best things i have ever done. I have learned so much about diabetes ~ MY diabetes ~ from all the wonderful & caring folk on this forum.

Once you return to us we will help you to manage YOUR diabetes and with the abundance of information that we have collated you will be on your way. I don't want to overwhelm you with it all now. In the meantime Tally do try not to worry, take care x

Hi Tally, yes, it's a little (or a lot) overwhelming at first, but you will come to grips with it quickly. You, indeed, are lucky to find this forum so quickly; I was on a couple of unsupportive forums before I found this one.

Feel free to ask questions, you will usually get an answer

Welcome Tally. Your mate has done you a favour getting you to come on this site. 🙂

Thanks so much for your kind words, it's so nice to know I don't have to do this on my own

Thank you from looking through the forum today you're right I'm lucky to have found this so early on in my diagnosis. I can see me spending a lot of time reading up and researching

Thanks, yes they really have and I'm looking forward to getting to know people and learning more about my diabetes

Welcome @Tally and hope you are not too worried about tomorrow but sure it is a very challenging time. I remember getting a phone call one evening and then waiting all night for the appointment in the morning. I was terrified! I was very shocked and overwhelmed by everything.
If you would like to do share how you came to be diagnosed then do tell us but only if you feel ok with that, Do you feel ill? I had hardly any symptoms and was so shocked when I got my diagnose. This forum has helped me enormously and everyone has been very friendly and supportive,
I hope tomorrow goes well and do ask anything you like, there is always someone who has experience and wisdom.

I also had no symptoms, I had a flu bug that floored me and wasn't clearing up and a friend of mine who is diabetic urged me to get checked out and that's how I found out I was diabetic. The doctors this morning was a bit wham bam thank you mam though, they tested my pee and told me it's possibly type 1 (glucose high, ketones very high) but they need to take advice on it and they're going to call me back later. I asked if I need to do anything and got told no. I just feel completely out my depth and ended up having a good cry when I got home

Oh No, that sounds so unsupportive. I didn't have ketones but I have read from those who did that they needed treatment urgently. If you don't feel well then do get yourself to A and E. How high is your blood sugar? Sending hugs. Maybe ring the helpline? Let's hope you get the phone call soon.

I only had weight and muscle loss.
