Ask anything which comes to mind in these forums.
And write down questions for the nurse.

Hello @T2lynne Welcome to the forum, as you can see there is plenty of help and support here.

I can still remember that big shock of first diagnosis although it was a while ago. You've already got through that difficult first step of accepting the situation and taking positive steps to find help and a good way forward.

There are good solutions, and many of us, me included, find although changes need to be made they lead to a better more enjoyable lifestyle.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ and you need to find what right for you.
There is plenty of help and information available and we can answer questions and give you some pointers when you are ready.

As all the others have already said ask away as many times as necessary. I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago and found the forum invaluable.

Hi there @T2lynne

I'm sure as you’ve found this forum you will find all the help support & advise you will need

Welcome to the forum @T2lynne

Feeling shocked and overwhelmed is perfectly natural when you have a diagnosis with diabetes. But take things gradually. Diabetes is generally a slow-moving foe - and it’s a marathon not a sprint 🙂

Try not to be disheartened about your diagnosis, many people on the forum later reflect that their diagnosis became a catalyst which prompted them to make positive changes towards a healthier and more active life. Perhaps changes that they had been intending to make for years.

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy.

Often you don’t realise how weary, worn down and lethargic you have been feeling. Erratic and elevated blood glucose levels can be exhausting and are linked with low mood, but this may have come on quite gradually. Making a few positive changes can give you more energy, a clearer mind, and a brighter outlook. Plus the regular checks you get after a diagnosis with diabetes mean that any potential problems may be spotted earlier, and can be sorted out sooner.

Keep asking questions, and let us know how you get on!

The great thing about this forum is that everyone is helpful, courteous and kind. The amount of personal experience here is tremendous and so useful. I found this site so essential after the initial shock of diagnosis and feeling dumped and alone and lost. But quickly got things together with new hope with the help of the members here.

Welcome to the forum @T2lynne
Diagnosis is a shock for anyone.

Do ask any questions that you have.
There is plenty of experience to draw on.

that did make me laugh.
Re shopping, if you look on your supermarkets online site you can check the carb content of most foods etc that you intend buying when you shop , It helps reduce the time in the store.

Hello and welcome. 🙂

Just wondered if anyone could give me a wee bit advice, im not sure where im going wrong but ive not got my glucose monitor yet as the chemist recommended i spoke to rhe nurse first to see which one she recommended before buying one, in the morning im having 1 slice of wholemeal toast with 1 tablespoon of cottage cheese, smoked salmon and 1 tomato for breakfast about 2 hours later , i think my blood sugars have dropped because my legs are really shaky , headache and feel abit dizzy , im not sure if im not eating properly in the morning , i also take 500 metformin after breakfast, any advice would be really appreciated, thanks

Well in theory Metformin is said not to be hypo inducing drug, but the only way to know if it was a true hypo would be to test. Some people experience symptoms similar to hypos if they have had high levels for a long time, when they begin to come down.
