Morning
Just back from the docs... yes levels are high 9.1 also bp still very high 180/97 also cholesterol high as well...
They've upped my bp meds... discussed putting me on statins but decided to hold off for now...
Initially for the blood sugar she want me to adjust my diet and see if that helps any tasty low carb recipes/meal ideas would be appreciated... i have an appt with the diabetes nurse booked in for 1st May... earliest they had apparently... but ill keep trying to get a cancellation. And then take it from there... i asked about a test meter but she said to see how it goes for now...
Ive also been having really bad back/leg pains so had an xray... i have arthritis in my hip that needs a replacement...but they are hoding off on that until the bp and bg are more stable... not the best docs appt ive ever had lol....

So we'll see how it goes.
Mick.

Check out the recipe section on here. It's in the food & carb queries forum. There are also some great websites to check out, such as Diet Doctor, I Breathe I'm Hungry, Low Carb Yum & Ditch The Carbs. My diet largely consists of recipes from these sites.🙂

Yup, Mick, hold off the statins. Your cholesterol will be raised because of the underperforming liver. As you shed weight, and your liver recovers, the cholesterol levels will come down all on their own. Promise.🙂

Livers are the only organ that can mend themselves as long as there’s no outright cirrhosis.

Mick , cut out all the salt, all the sugar, all or most of the carbs from your diet, cut out all alcohol as well for a month and I will guarantee that your BP will come down to normal levels. try just eating fish, meat with no fat , green veg , I just eat loads of spinach , and eat lots of fruit , also plenty of Garlic is very good for you.

Thanks Peter thats what ive done... just more thought into what to use as alternatives to high carb foods like spuds.. rice... pasta etc... but were getting there....
Are the wholemeal pasta / rice any good or are these still a no no..?
Mick.

Hi Mick, I was told that brown bread / pasta / rice is only slightly less bad than the white versions. Try cauliflower rice, it's lovely, because rice doesn't taste of anything really does it, so that is an easy swap. And I find the baby potatoes are ok for me, but only 3 or 4.
I follow the LCHF WOE so I would advise to eat the fat. It has worked for me so far, but we are all different. The only way you will know what works for you is by testing.
Have a good look in the food and carbs section for lots of ideas and advice.

To get normal readings - first of all you need a meter to check on what those levels are - there is a cheap one available mail order - I believe it is called the 'Codefree' - there is probably information on it around, even numbers to put in for a discount on supplies.
Secondly, reducing the carbs - particularly avoiding dense starches such as potatoes and bread, rice, pasta etc - even those 'healthy' wholemeal ones, and sugary fruits. Checking before starting to eat and then two hours later will show how various meals affect blood glucose so you can drop down to normal levels, and then if you are lucky you will see even more improvements as time passes.

Yeah when i saw the doc she said to hold off the meter for now.... but im 'flying blind' without one... not knowing if what im eating is bringing the level down or increasing it... so ive bitten the bullet and ordered one... so at least i should be able to see.
On another note tried some celeriac mash last night for the first time... was pleasantly suprised. Will be having that again.

I used to have celeriac mash, until I got celeriaced out.:D I recommend varying different veg for mash. Tonight I'm having bangers & mash, & making the mash from a combo of cauli & turnip.🙂
