I was just wondering......I no that is dangerous 🙂......BUT!!! I have been reading about everyone saying hot weather rising there blood levels, but can hot weather lower your blood levels to?

My BS has been going up and down like a yo yo, had my worst hypo the other night. :(

Don't know about type 2's, but my type 1 son has had BG levels bumping along the bottom all week, including a smattering of hypos. He is needing about 20% less insulin daily than he was having a couple of weeks ago.

Frequent hypos and the odd bounce here. It's been this way for days.

It's been sort of evening itself out for me. I haven't been as active so would't be as sensitive to the insulin in normal weather, but the hot weather reduces my requirements somewhat similar to if I had been more active! Confused? So am I!

Actually, just felt a bit low as I am writing this, so tested and I am...2.7 😱

Yes, I am on gliclazide 160 mg taken in the morning with breakfast. My normal lows are if I have a late lunch usual give or take 1/2 hour around 2 pm. Then around 11:30 pm when I have messed up tea, when I have been high before tea.

The 2.6 around 1 am caught me completely by surprise. I did feel really yuk and was a bit hard to think, took a while to recover and did not get much sleep.

What a coincidence - my son's pump just bleeped the downward alert (he has a sensor in this week) and he tested 3.8. He only ate a great pile of paella an hour ago! My theory is that your metabolism is working quite hard keeping your body temperature in the normal range, and this takes up more energy than you realise!

Iv been struggling with lows since the hot weather other night tested before bed 8.5 then 45 mind later felt low and was 2.1 blurghhhh makes you feel rubbish!!

Just shows how the hot weather can effect us all in different ways, I wonder if non diabetics get different levels than us when so hot?

You probably won't get a day's worth of readings from a non-diabetic, unless one of the lovely Mums here fancy being a pincushion for a day!

If it helps, my pancreas has forgiven me and my insulin resistance has decreased after losing a third of my former self, still with help from 2x500mg metformin. Here's a hot day's worth of readings: 5.4; 4.1; 4.6; 4.8; 4.9; 4.5; 4.9.

I think I'd like to take up that challenge just out of curiosity! Will have to wait to the weekend though to be able to pinch my son's meter. 🙂

I'm not diabetic but I bet I won't get as good a set of results as yours LeeLee. They're amazing! On the rare occasion my son gets a run of 4's, it inevitably leads to hypos the next day.

this is why i always dislike hot weather, it messes with my levels so much i get to a point where i'm just like are you seriously trying to test me this much diabetes. grrr.

my results for yesterday until this morning. 4.6, 11.0 😱 9.9, 6.6, 3.5 😱 6.1, 4.6. should of been no reason for the peaks or low. :(

The other day was just as weird 4.8, 10.3, 12.5, 9.3, 2.6 😱 7.4, 4.7.

I am going to get my lovely wife to test during the day as she is non diabetic tomorrow, to see what her readings are....she is going to be are pet Guinea pig :D will let you no the readings tomorrow evening 🙂

A non-d won't have any difference in their readings according to weather.

In a non-d, glycogen and insulin release is all moderated automatically on the fly according to the situation at the time. So it doesn't matter if the heat changes how easily the insulin is used - their bodies will just automatically make the necessary adjustments. The only reason heat may affect those with diabetes is because we have to manually manage our blood sugar and we simply don't have the tools or the algorithms to manage blood sugar like a non-d.

But still..just a test...🙂

Well, there you go - I was 5.8 before tea, then 7.9 2 hours after. Then for no apparent reason I dropped to a Shakin' Stevens 2.2 30 minutes later! Definitely the hot weather as I would normally be fine if I was high 7s 2 hours after eating, would expect to drop to about 5 before bed usually.

Two jelly babies brought me up to 4.9 but now I want to eat EVERYTHING!!!!! 😱
