Anyone Type I recently served Jury service? I am concerned about rules regarding monitoring my sugars and popping gluco tabs if necessary.

They do take medical conditions into account, but I think you have to contact the court your serving at in advance. It can't do any harm in phoning them up and telling them your concerns and asking for advice. When hubby did it last, his osteoarthritis was taken into account because he had phoned ahead.

I haven't personally, but I know that DizzyDi has and she is Type 2 on insulin. I don't think she encountered any problems 🙂

Are you concerned in case treating any low blood sugars will not be permitted.......?

I wouldn't assume this would be a problem, however I have never been asked, which I am kinda disappointed about....:(

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far; I just wondered if anyone has any recent experience and whether they were able to test whilst proceedings were going on (i.e. in the actual Courtroom). I am aware that my sugar levels drop if I am concentrating hard on something. I have already notified that I am diabetic and will also obviously check with the authorities nearer the time but anyone???

Plus of course if you go hypo, or high but esp hypo then your concentration levels will be affected.

I'd be being 'deliberately difficult' and asking em if they will be fully prepared to have a 45 mins (at least) recess (you know, as per DVLA driving rules to make sure you are fully compus mentis again following a hypo) should I go hypo either in court or whilst considering the verdict and if not then ask, 'So how can you expect me to take part?' LOL

It is certainly something they need to take into consideration. DO get advice from the court

Hi you wont have any problems. Lots of breaks, your generally not in the court more than an hour at a time and if you are concerned about anything all you have to do is raise your hand and the Usher will come to you .
