Then to cut costs they decided as we were all living to long it was costing them money so stopped them. The 15 year one was stopped around about the time I reached the 15 year mark same with the 25 year medal.
So as I reach the 50 years in 3 years time I suspect the medal will be withdrawn just before then 🙄 Which will be a great shame for those that want to write and ask for a medal.

The 15/25 year medals were before my time, but we send out a lot of 50 year medals so I'm pretty sure there's no plans to scrap them! They are quiet expensive to produce... But there was talk about introducing an 80 year medal recently, but I'm not sure what's happened with those plans.

It's an amazing testament to how things have progressed. When I was diagnosed 34 years ago, they were talking expectancy of 60s or 70s if you're really good.

To think that we can make it past 80 if the control and the genes allow must be a real boost for newly diagnosed. WHen you're 13yo, you don't want to be told your life has just had 10 years knocked off it.

We had a pretty good response to the "80 years on insulin" story via Facebook on Monday. Lots of people seemed to take a positive message from it.
