Is anybody watching it? Johnny Vegas is on talking about how people expect him to be diabetic because he's fat. Jonathan's next guest is James Norton who is a type 1 diabetic. Johnny states that James didn't "look like a person that would have diabetes"! James Norton was just about to distinguish between the two different types but they went to a break... Oh and Jonathan said "we have two people on the show. One person with diabetes and one person that's gonna get it" meaning Johnny Vegas. Not very good publicity for either types!

Wasn't watching it - did they correct it after the ad break? If not then unfortunately for the sake of a cheap joke people will go away with the common misconceptions about diabetes. I know it's an entertainment show and not a documentary but things like this don't help.

Didn't watch it .. But that's just ridiculous. I don't expect Jonathan Ross to know everything but at the very least he should have researchers who brief him properly beforehand ?! At least on the very basics .

That's quite disgusting really. The average person knows nothing, which in this day & age is bad.

Nope - he went "actually there's two different types" then they cut to a break and he wasn't given the chance to continue. Little jokes like this perpetuate stereotypes that all T2s are overweight and all T1s are thin.

People need to be educated to be honest. My dad, for example, thinks T1 is low blood sugar and T2 is high blood sugar and there's no in between

TBH calling it entertainment was stretching a point.

Was it on TV. I don't have one. It's all....... rubbish that isn't worth the tv licence fee. So I haven't payed it for years and didn't keep the tv

I saw this, thought it was very poor :( I like Johnny normally, but the whole diabetes things was centred on the big joke that he was notoriously fat and therefore ought to have diabetes. James looked very uncomfortable about discussing his diabetes in such a jokey way - he was given no opportunity to stress how serious it can be :( Typical JR, I'm afraid, I just happened to see it after flicking through the channels after watching a film.

I've gone off Jonathan Ross, he used to be quite a good presenter but I think he got too big for his boots and just seems childish these days (or was he always that way and I never noticed?!) So it doesn't surprise me that he's making cheap jokes like this, unfortunately :(

Just watched this back on catch up. They seemed to be teeing up for a serious discussion after the break...and then it didn't happen. James Norton looked uncomfortable, and after a couple of vague questions from Ross, which obviously put him on the spot, Ross changed the subject.

I got that impression too. And I think I would've felt the same if someone was trivialising it like that on a live tv show

I got the impression they hadn't prepared Norton for it, and he was put on the spot, not knowing which way to take the conversation. What a wasted opportunity.

I would really have liked them to have a serious discussion about it. But I guess that wouldn't have been "funny"

Yes, I think you're right. I thought he was great back in the 1980s with The Last Resort, but then he's gradually become more and more egocentric, and far less entertaining as a result. :( I very rarely watch him these days unless there is someone on that I'm interested in. The thing is, most people must be pretty aware these days that there are 4m+ people with diabetes in the UK, so that is a pretty big number of the viewing audience you are taking the mickey out of, whilst at the same time showing complete ignorance.
