Hi guys
Just wondering if any of you have experienced weak jelly legs and constant leg and foot twitching as a consequence of being on metformin? I've only had these symtoms a few days and only been upping my met SR last few days too. May just be a conicidence but its blooming unpleasant, am finding it hard just climbing the stairs and twitches are keeping me awake.

i'm type 1 so may not be the same. Not had the jelly legs so much, but my oh complains about my leg twitching when asleep, occurs especially if my levels have been a bit up and down, or if I eat a bit later than normal. Sorry not much help

When you say 'jelly' do your legs actually give way, or just twitch?

You on any other drugs?

Sounds like muscle spasms to me. See your Gp if no one here has experienced the same on Metformin and he may be able to help you.

I've only been on Metformin for just over a month. I haven't had 'jelly legs' other than when my bg went down to 3.3 but I have noticed I get 'restless legs' from time to time where my legs seem to want to move and I can't seem to sit at peace.. Is this related to the Metformin?

I took metformin sr for a while a long with my insulin.

Whilst taking it I noticed that at a particular time of the month - my legs would be heavy and achy.

I have same with my Legs twiching just like they cant settle when sitting in chair or gets worse in Bed at Nighttime and GP has givn me information to" Restless Legs" if you google youl find it see what you think

I suffer from Restleg Syndrome, RLS, I take tablets for it, before bed and since last year during the day. It's an awful condition :( I really hope you don't have it.
A doctor may request a blood test to see whether you are low in iron before investigating any further. I don't know anything about Metformin and it's effects on ' twitching' I'm afraid. Good luck to all you twitchers and I hope things settle down for you all soon. Sheena

Thanks guys. Some food for thought. I was diagnosed as aneamic in Oct then in Jan told I was ok again but I might just check to see if there is a lack of iron or B12. I'm not sure its exactly like restleg syndrome, poor you Sheena! My legs are twitching all day and night & my foot and lower back, my knees are painful and I'm very weak and like jelly when I walk, its plain weird. I'll get it checked, hopefully it will pass.

Metformin has been linked to low levels of B12. I think its listed on the Patient Information leaflet.

I don't think it is possible for you, but I get these symptoms when I am hypo. Have you checked your sugar levels?
