Ellie, we all have to eat a peck of dirt before we die!
Simply would never occur to me that there would be anything remotely dangerous in them - otherwise they'd potentially be poisoning a selection of eg M&S customers. And frankly, I really don't think it's worth my worrying about.
If you live with pets, and suffer no partic ill effects - you are more than likely pretty well immune to most things anyway!
There is some concern over chemical leaching out of plastics, such as phthalates in PVC, into food, but I think the risk is greatest with high fat foods and certain types of plastics eg cheese wrapped in clingfilm. However, jelly babies aren't known for their high fat content, and ziplock bags are usually made of polythene, not PVC. However, phthalates are being phased out of food containers.
Bacterial contamination is another matter, but not really the issue with jelly babies in plastic bags - food needs to be clean, not sterile 🙂
I sometimes use an old test strip tub which will fit a few in, or the jelly babies that come in a re-sealable bag, the other ones just go everywhere once opened! 🙂
Test strip tubs are even worse they have a chemical aniti damp agent in them, and it does say in the leaflet not for food use..
I regularly kiss and sleep with something that's been kicking about a dirty greasy factory all day, and have done this on a daily basis since I was 17. It's generally been washed by the time it gets in bed, but definitely not when it walks back through the front door and I say Hello!
I reckon I'm probably immune to suds, machine oil, engine oil, 2-pack car paint, cellulose paint and thinners, cement, weedkiller - etc etc etc etc etc by now .......
Forgot printing ink.

Mine often comes home or gets into my car either very muddy and sweaty from running / biking / kayaking, although often I'm in the same state; not quite sure what chemicals etc he uses at work, but I've been in their workshop and there are usually traces of lubricants, metal dust etc.
