As I have become sensitive to Metformin (after taking it for years), I no longer want to take it, so the nurse has suggested Jardiance, She said it has been on the market for some time now but still fairly new. Before I agree to take it I would like to hear from anyone who has been taking it and how you are getting (got) on with it.

One of the side effects is urinary tract infections and thrush. From what I have read it seems they are very common side effects. Have the people who take it had experience of this?

Hi Lilian. I was on it as third line of meds. I didn’t get uti or thrush, but had a bit of trouble getting to loo on time (but maybe not all to do with meds as not much better now off it -maybe age) and had weight loss (but that was maybe diet and progression of diabetes) my BG did come down though a bit.
Hope this helps

It shouldn’t be a second line medication.

In any case, there is a known interaction with Losartan, which can cause very low blood pressure. Your nurse should have been aware of this.

Thanks @ Carog - can I ask why you came off of it please? Good point @ Mike, thanks. I will mention that to her when I see her next.

My pleasure, Lilian - didn’t want you falling over when you stood up🙂

Hi Lilian. Of course you can ask. I was struggling to get to loo on time, and run out for a few days and was a bit better. It was stopped but in fact not a great deal better. My weight was dropping also so they won’t give me it again as don’t want me to lose more weight it did help with BG but not as much as they wanted

Weight loss is a well known benefit/side-effect/impact** (**chose word most suitable to you) for this class of drugs, although like most things, not everyone experiences this.

@Lilian - this class of medication works by making your system get rid of the blood glucose by weeing it away. The UTIs and thrush are more likely to occur where the individual doesn't drink enough to flush things through *pardon the pun).

I know a couple of people who have used it with a decent degree of success, but like all meds, it doesn't suit everyone.
