Hi tas,I suffer with IBS so I also have similar issues.Oddly today I haven't had the running to the loo just stomach ache and actually finding it hard to go.I think the trouble with Diabetes and the Metformin is that you are sometimes going to not be sure if it's those that are doing something to you or if it's something else that you suffer with.Especially if you are newly diagnosed, well I am certainly in that position anyway.Feeling tired again today but I am up and trying to do some work at home and trying to drink plenty as advised.I am just not very thirsty though even though I suppose I am meant to be.I never was very straight forward!🙂

My partner is being lovely,he's been on the net finding out what is good to eat and stuff like that as he does most of the cooking. He's going to pretty much be doing the Diabetes diet with me which I think is really supportive of him and later we are going to clear the cupboards of anything sugary so we can't get tripped up.It's unbelievable the amount of things you don't think as containing too much sugar until you really look at the labels!
You even have to think about things like cough sweets when you have a cold and get the sugar free ones (I have a cold a the moment)!
You also have a fab day and get some fluid down you (sipping sugar free Volvic as we speak!)x

So I did my first grocery shop as a Diabetic at Aldi today with my partner.
It was actually quite interesting looking on the backs of packets and finding out things I assumed were off limits were in fact pretty alright!Like Poppodoms seem to be ok regarding carbs and sugar so at least I can have one still with a curry but naan breads I will have to not bother with.I can live with that! For now I'm replacing ordinary pasta and rice with the brown or wholemeal and will exercise some portion control and see how I go on.
Got some prawns and blueberries to replace crisps and sweetie cravings not that I am much into sweet things,it's Carbs I will miss.Ditto bread I bought some seeded and also some brown rye bread instead of my usual 50/50 bread and just eat less of it anyway.
My point is it doesn't feel like I can't eat anything I like anymore just have alternatives and less and see how I go on.Also the Metformin trots didn't happen at all today so feeling more positive already.
This forum is worth it's weight in gold for checking certain foods and getting support.
Thank you everyone!x

CHECK out the Aldi soups. Some of them have a surprisingly low carb content.

I'm taking it that it was an HbA1c test then.

So am I. Medical people usually say to allow a week, or two.

Looks like Goldie already has the results, and "a bit high" doesn't quite cover it.
Diabetes UK did have a page where you could convert HbA1c results between the two scale. They've gone and changed their site. Agian (Ugh) so I've no idea where it is now. On the newer numbers, that I get my results in, the ranges are:
30 to 41 "normal"
41 to 47 is called pre diabetic
48 and above gets you a diagnoses of diabetes (which you keep even if you go below this)
People on here have been diagnosed with levels ranging from 48 up to 100 and above.
If your 25 is an HbA1c result, then it could very well be on the other scale, which gives smaller numbers, which look like those from a finger prick test. 48 = 6.5 on this scale.

Probably depends on where you live. My surgery told me they very often get them back on same day but 48 hours is the norm. It is much quicker these days due to computerisation I think.

Well it's been a funny couple of days.I felt quite poorly on Sunday.Metformin side effects back with a vengeance as well most of the day and from 4:30am Monday morning.
I did a urine sample for the GP and got called in to see them only to be sent to my local hospital assessment team as I had ketones in the sample.
They were thinking about admitting me so I could have a drip but thankfully just decided to add Glicazide to my Metformin tablets.
The good news is my BG has dropped to 18 from 25 which it was on Thursday.
It really has been quite mad.Couldn't keep my eyes open all through Sunday but finding it hard to nod off tonight.
