so today was my appointment to see my nurse at my clinic were i was to get all my bloods done, blood pressure and astma reveiw.
i left my house i thought in good time to walk there, left home around 10.15am giving me plenty of time as im still slow at walking after my accident, i arrived at reception at 10.45am a little late i know as my appointment was for 10.40, anyway i got to the nurse and she said your here for your astma reveiw an i said im actuly here for my diabetes appointment but that you wanted to do my astma while i was up and she said well tracey your 10mins late so i cant do your diabetes tests today but will do your astma, i repiled that they wanted me up today as its been ages since ive been seen an she just said well you shouldnt have been late then you must keep your appointment time, i was gobsmaked at her attitude that i couldnt say anything back, i just let her get on with it an do the astma one, she then took the time to weigh me and looked at her computer screen an said awwh i need to do your blood pressure but in the end she actuly forgot to take it and i was so angry i didnt bother reminder her. i lelf and went to the other surgery in my town to see if i could register but they cant take patients from the same town but she was kind enough to give me a name of somewere called bso that i can write of to an ask if i can join the other surgery. to be honest ive just had enough of doctors and think im gonna do it on my own from now on, i just dont know were to turn now. sorry again for my big rant but i know when i come on here ppl actuly listen and give support, and im realy greatful to you all. 🙂

Sorry to hear about your bad experiance, after having a lot of appointments before i was diagnosed and felt like they was just humouring me. After diagnosis i had an apology from them and now they are more helpful. Definatley pursue a route to change surgeries if possable as it is important to have your checks done, and feel at ease in the process. all that agravation for being a little late is ridiculous. Hope you can swap - good luck

It is sad but true that some of the health professionals forget that they are there to provide a service we pay for. Good luck finding a new more helpful surgery.

Tracey, really sorry you had such a rubbish experience for the sake of just a few minutes. I know they work to very tight schedules, but it wouldn't have hurt to spend a few more minutes with you would it? I often have to wait half an hour or more for my appointments because my GP is overrunning, but she still gives my the time I need when I get in there so I don't mind too much. Sod's Law that your doctor wasn't overrunning, I hope that you can get signed up with a different surgery and get better treatment. 🙂

Tracey you know what its time to do so do it sweet, this women has proved once again just what a utter ""!"? she is,I know with my surgery theres an electronic thing goes across in red letters thats says if you are more then 10 mins late you must re-book but ive never seen anyone actually in that situation but come on you made the appointment for goodness sake grrrr im so angry on your behalf xxxxx

thanks guys again for all the lovely comments. im just feeling so down right now, just feel like somethings going on that ive just started to be treated this way, i mean she took the time to weigh me and the waiting room was empty for heavens sake. they were the ones giving off to me for not attending appointments that i was never actuly given, goes to show im just another number to them and that they dont realy care what happens. im dedermined that im not going to let this drop, thats the second time in 2 weeks and ive had enough of being spoken down to. im a human being as well.

Hi Tracey I'm not sure if anyone else has suggested this and I appolgise if they have. Can you write to the surgery and tell them how upset you are and ask for a proper review, but like the others have said in the meantime try and find a new gp ? Hope you manage to get sorted asap x

It would be worth contacting PALS so you can get advice on the best way to make your complaint Tracey:

So sorry about your treatment Tracey, but dont go on your own, make them give you the checks that we all need, until such time as you find a better GP if you decide thats the best route.

Have 100% empathy with you, I have a good GP, but a lousy nurse.

I agree with slipper, don't go near them on your own from now on. I really hope you'll be able to change surgeries soon.

Hi Tracey sorry for a late reply but I have been at work. I'm so sorry you have had a bad experience at the doctors.
I can relate to it this as recently I had a bad experience at my doctors, bearing in mind they are usually really good.
I was so distressed I rang up and asked to speak to the duty manager who rang me back the same day and I received a letter in the post the day after that.
They have been brilliant ever since.
It might to worth ringing them and explaining what happened so it can't happen again.

hi traceycat
i feel for you and wish you luck in finding a new surgery - but if you are upto it i would consider writing to the surgery direct anyhow just to let them know how you feel
i find it always helps to get it off your chest even if they don't respond and who knows it might help get a result.
i agree with the person who suggested PALS they are v good in out area and it helps to get advice from somebody who knows the system
good luck and keep your chin up not all GP surgery are that bad.

Hi Tracey,

So sorry you have had yet another awful trip. I guess it doesn't take much to get this nurse going and I suppose the fact that you were late gave her the ammunition for you to be her target yet again! Its not right and you absolutely must take time to write to the practice manager no matter what else you do - especially about her manner.

At our practice its similar in one way but completely different in another. One doctor you go for your appointment at say 10am and are still waiting sometimes at 11am. I don't mind though as she takes time to listen and you get sorted when you do get in.

Now the other GP - if my appointmetn is 10am and i turn up at 10.01am he will not see you at all!! Your appointment with him is always rushed too, but I guess thats his way. I suppose some prefer this as they know there is no waiting.

I guess its each GP rule and I know I just have to respect them.

It sounds like your being late possibly sparked it this time - but its still not right.

You NEED a GP so dont go it alone. Speak out - get help - and get it sorted - after all its you that has the right to this service and to be treated with respect.

Can I ask - what has stopped you writing to the surgery so far?🙂

My doctors surgery is just as bad. I had a phone call come in and see doctor about your diabetes, so I made an appointment, which I had to cancel because with the weather it made me late.

Then I got a letter saying you haven't had any tests done foe over a year, so please contact us. I know I had at least two tests done last year and both time I had to go for repeat tests because they lost results and samples...

At the moment I am considering chnging doctors because the surgery I am under is such rubbish...

Well Caroline - did the GP lose them? - or the Lab?

Was the original test done on a form from the hospital or the GP? - at my surgery to find tests done on hospital forms (because I can use my one to take and send samples to the Lab whoever reuests them) but I have to see a GP to actually get those results - they have to specially 'sign in' to the hospital system to view them and that privelege does not extend to the nurses, let alone the receptionists/office staff.

I am not sure who lost them, the doctor reckoned he had some when he prescribed new tablets and now the receptionists are saying there are no tests on file, so someone has got it wrong, they couldn't organise a sit in on their owm sofas sometimes...

thanks again everyone for all the great support and again sorry for being so slow to respond as im not always on the laptop and cant access the forum from my fone.
i had a realy bad day yesterday were i felt realy depressed and just stayed in bed all day crying, ive been having a few personal problems aswell as the gp on my case so i think i was just feeling sorry for myself to be honest.
im not feeling strong enough to fight the health care im having so ive decided to stick it out, so long as i get my bloods taken im gonna ignore their cheekiness for now.
my husband works over in england during the week as a long distance lorry driver and wants me to come out with him on monday for a week so i can get away for a wee break from everything thats been going on, only thing is the nurse has rebooked my diabetes appointment for wednesday and im to scared to cancelle and say im off on a holiday incase she gets mad.
if you were in my situation what would you do?
