I've baffled the Dr's again!

Went to the drs about a rash that appeared on my legs and occasionally on my arms. It started Sunday evening with a small itchy red raised patch near my left knee, by yesterday it was all over both my lower legs. The Dr was totally baffled about what it is and what's causing it! She doesn't think it's linked to my diabetes medication though. I've been given some strong antihistamines to take and if no better in a week then I have to have blood tests to test my liver function!
 
Relieved to hear it isn't shingles or cellulitis stitch...hope it clears soon and especially for your run! 😱
 
My old gran would have said its the badness coming out of you! Lol

It is probably a reaction to something you have eaten - had any fish or shellfish recently?
 
You haven't changed your washing powder lately have you? Hope it clears up pronto! 🙂

That's what I was thinking. It's more likely a contact reaction than a food one. Got new tights, socks or trousers lately? A cool bath with an oatmeal soak* will soothe the itch.

* A piece of muslin or a clean hanky tied around half a tea cup of rough oats like a tea bag (it needs a little room). Soak it well and squeeze over your itchies then pat (don't rub) dry.
 
That sounds nasty, Stitch. I'm tending towards a contact reaction too - my daughter once had a reaction to fabric softener, if I remember right.
 
Thanks all. I've used the same soap, washing powder, softener etc for years, never changed anything. I have no food allergies. I've found that aloe Vera cream is helping to soothe it. It won't stop me on Sunday.

I've had cellulitis 3 times so know the signs for that one!
 
This happened to me a few years ago. This weird blotchy rash appeared all over my legs, arms and stomach. Doc gave me anti histamines but they didn't work. A different doctor said it wasn't a histamine reaction so gave me this waxy ointment to put all over my body. It was that thick and greasy that I'd have to stand naked like a star fish in my living room for half an hour until it soaked in!! It cleared up in a week or two though. Still no idea what it was...

Really hope yours gets sorted soon and the tablets work. Aloe Vera gel is amazing!
 
Sounds as if it might have been Betnovate ointment Rosie, that's a steroid that I used to have for the eczema. Glad it worked.
 
You can have a violent anti-Betnovate reaction though, can't you!

And you can fairly suddenly become allergic to something you've used since the Old Queen died - this refers to Queens in their own right though rather than to Queen Mum LOL It's more like the build up of whatever the agonist is that one - your immune system announces it's had enough of whatever, and it ain't gonna play that game any more.

Or - it can be nerves! - a nervous reaction to/against something.
 
Even if you have used the same washing powder/soap/conditioner for ages the manufacturers may have changed the formula - might be an idea to look at packet and see if it says "improved " or something similar. Does it even smell the same?
For me I had a severe reaction to Comfort conditioner many years ago but Lenor and cheap own brand ones were ok. Only cleared after being "painted" - and yes I do mean a 2" paint brush -with gunk 3 x day for a week. Even had to take time off work!!

Washing powder and stuff we get from costco so a big box of powder will last us at least a year and i'm about halfway through a box of the stuff, same with the conditioner. Im hoping the huge antihistamines im taking do the trick. They are 180mg, so fingers crossed!
 
Saw a different Dr today about my rash which is now covering more of my body than last week. She has given me a different antihistamine to try and some cream to hopefully help when it's itchy. I've still got my blood tests next Wednesday to check liver function, so fingers crossed I'll get some more answers then. I will also be having my next diabetes blood tests done next Wednesday too, for my HbA1c etc. I did have a giggle to myself when i left the chemist as its the first time I'd left with a carrier bag full of stuff on prescription!

Hope the new meds/cream do the trick Stitch 🙂 I had a similar experience when leaving the chemist with all my stuff in a carrier bag! When I was diagnosed I was put on 11 different meds, plus 2 types of insulin, plus test strips, ketostix and lancets! 😱 🙂 I'd only just found out that this was all free to me because of my diabetes - thank heavens and the NHS for that! 🙂
 
As yes, allergies change all the time. I used to be allergic to rice till about 25 years ago, now I'm not. I was never allergic to strawberries till about three years ago, now I am (sob). I also had a problem with geraniums and their relations the tomato plants till about 5 years ago, now that's gone too. Thank dog I've never had a bad reaction to Betnovate or I'd have been up the creek and no mistake. That's been a life saver for me, literally, since it was about the only stuff that ever worked on my eczema. The coal tar treatment they used once though, nearly killed me.
