Well done on the great HBa1C! Sorry the consultant was a bit rubbish, that was like me last time, it's very frustrating. 😡

My chol was a bit high last time, though no-one di dor has mentioned it - I will see what it is in September I think and if still high ask what I am meant to do about it! Hopefully weight loss will helps anyway. Under 2.5 - wowsers! 😱 Never heard that.

The negative consultant thing really chimes with me. Last time William went to the clinic and his A1c was 6.2, the consultant sucked his teeth and said "He's probably still in his honeymoon ... things are going to get much more difficult". This was the same consultant who told William on diagnosis day "Well, you've already got lymphoedema and now you've got diabetes. If you don't watch out you'll lose your legs ... " William was 14 years old 😡
He does also say positive stuff, but somehow the negative ones stick in your mind

That is appalling, what on earth is going through his mind to think that that is an acceptable thing to say to a young lad? 😱 Reminds me of a n old boss of mine - no matter what you did it wasn't good enough, he always looked on the bad side. When I resigned after 11 years with the company, rather than wish me well and thank me for the work I had done (which had been fundamental to the success of the company) he said 'Well, you know the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence'. 🙄

.......What a nasty man! 😡

I've made him sound worse than he is really ... He does have his warmer side but he always says at the end of the consultation that it is going to get harder, which makes me a bit fed up. The implication is that William can't take the credit for his A1c because it's down to his honeymoon. I'm not so sure about that as his ratio is now 1:8, and he has 15/16 Lantus at night. It's been like that for a while now, but last summer he was 1:75 and 2/3 Lantus! Having said all that, the consultant is very supportive in other ways. William's lymphoedema is very badly catered for on the NHS and our consultant has written a letter to our PCT in support of our application for treatment, explaining how important it is for him to keep his legs in good condition. He is also prepared to put William forward for a pump (I started a thread about that a while ago), although W doesn't feel ready for that yet.

Sorry I've hijacked your thread Northerner!! 😱

No need to apologise 🙂 It is a shame that they feel the need to throw in these negatives. The consultant I saw wasn't bad at all really, just seemed to be struggling for something to say and ended up sounding a bit doom and gloom when it wasn't really necessary. Maybe some of them get so used to having to hammer home the warnings to people they can't hold back when presented with people who don't need them! 🙄
