My GP refused to listen to my concern when I developed T2 diabetes in 2012. He said that it is not inherited and I have nothing to worry about.

More ignorance. 🙄 As far as I know the only way to get T2 is to inherit the genes; then insulin resistance, and consequent glucose lingering in the blood, cause the liver to use up the spare glucose and insulin by converting the glucose to fat, until finally (several years down the road) that coping strategy can no longer cut it, resulting in manifest T2 and the "obesity causes diabetes" nonsense from tabloid journalists. 🙄
 
So how does this explain the T2s who are not obese/overweight? I dont disagree with you Robert, but it cant be the only story...
 
We have no history of diabetes of any kind in our family. I am not and never have been overweight. I had no symptoms at all. I did have parents who had cancer of the pancreas and acute pancreatitis, hence my concern. 🙂
