Simon, visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp has a profound effect on most people and I’m not surprised your levels are all over the place. The reality of what happened there hits hard on anyone with a conscience and makes us want to reach for comfort. In your case it’s drink so it will be a struggle but stay strong and stay on track. Best wishes, Amigo

When I was InterRailing in 1996 we went to Krakow. Whilst there we went to Oswiecim to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Harrowing place. I'll never forget it.

Schindler’s Factory was enough for me. My husband was concerned about me going to the camp because he knew how much it would affect me.
Simon, enjoy Krakow, it’s a wonderful place and I felt a real affinity with it and the people.

Yes I realised you’ve had a few Simon. Best call it a night on here mate because you’re over-wrought. Take care and enjoy the less harrowing bits of Krakow tomorrow.

I also understand - I just couldn't go to one of those places, but we did go to Oradour sur Glanes once when touring on the motorbike. Hard to describe the feeling of absolute silence all around you on a beautiful hot sunny day in July when you suddenly realise you haven't seen or heard one bird about this dead village in the middle of glorious countryside. Pete my husband made one statement about the place about 2 days later.

All the souls have left.

Yes.

I am sure the emotional affects of visiting the camps is having an effect on your bg levels.

My Mother stated the same after she visited Belsen. No birds sang or were present.

I will post this here Simon I posted it on your profile also
Had the same profound effect on my Mother Simon. Crying is natural and human. I admire your honesty. It is difficult to believe Mans inhumanity to Man. I think everyone should at sometime in their lives visit these camps both as a sign of respect for the absolute horrors that happened there and to help enforce that is should never be allowed to happen again. The sheer scale is beyond comprehension. Enjoy Krakow.
