Hi,

I'm off to a birthday do next week, at a local Italian.

Menu is standard stuff.....what would be the best suggestion ? Don't eat meat / fish / poultry, so that's all out.....but without giving the game away at the table (status a private matter), what would you recommend as the lesser of all evils, to have ?

I have to eat...but want to limit the damage.

Thanks for any and all input !

Helen

I'd personally avoid any deep crusted pizza!

Considering that pasta has a delayed conversion to carbs and that fat (cheese sauce) will slow it even further down, I'd be tempted by a lasagne - but pass on the garlic bread.

If they do cheesy garlic mushrooms as a side, that might be worth trying...

I'd go for one or more of the following strategies:

1. Give yourself an evening off worrying about it and be extra good for the rest of the week.
2. Eat something high protein (e.g. crustless quiche) before you go out so that you're not very hungry when you're ordering.
3. Go for something that doesn't include pasta or pizza - maybe a large salad?
4. Cheese or sorbet for afters are less bad than some of the other puding options.

Have a lovely time, whatever you decide to do! 🙂

like this idea! if you are going for a pizza get a thin/crispy version rather than deep pan and go for a high vegetable option.

Thanks guys - appreciate the input.

After recent weight loss, don't want a disappointing week and don't want levels to jump, as I'm getting those down as well....

have a lovely time have anything in moderation ..id go for a lovely pizza loaded with veg :D articokes aubergine corgette mushrooms olives peppers ....and not eat the base ...its traditionally only realy a 'plate' to cook the veg on ...

Spaghetti, if cooked al dente, is only in the low 30s for GI. Most pasta isn't too bad. If they do proper pizzas and spin them up in the air, they are thinner in the middle. I leave the crusty outer edge which usually has no topping anyway and I find it OK on my BG.
