Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
So I've got fibro aswell as diabetes. I woke up at 130pmish my sleeping pattern is squiffy but that's OK as its normal for me.
I've had 1 mug of coffee. Half a bowl of porridge I couldn't finish it all. Now I'm drinking elderflower water.
I've spend the last 2hrs moving round my bedroom. It was a big job but now I feel sick and light headed. I've always put these symptoms down to my fibro as it happens everytime I exuerte myself. But could it be due to my diabetes or poss both?

Hi Catherine

Do you know how many carbs there were in the elderflower water, and in your porridge?
Are you testing your glucose levels?

It is difficult to know if the symptoms you are experiencing are linked to your Diabetes without knowing your levels. I know that I feel pretty awful if I have high glucose levels.

I was surprised at how many carbs I was eating when I weighed out my portion when used to have porridge. It is very moreish and for me shot my levels up. Others find that their body can cope with this. As with all things Diabetes it is so individual. We each have to find what works for us.

Like you if I have broken nights I don’t worry. My body will demand some sleep eventually. That is easier for me as I am not getting up for work, and if necessary can just lie in once things catch up.

Roughly 48 carbs for both.
I check my blood when I wake and after my night meds.
It is so difficult to know but I'm hopeful that once I get more use to my diabetes I'll be able to tune into my body like I do with my fibro. My bloods are still all over the place tho. I find that I manage far better when I plan my meals and snacks. The what did you eat yesterday thread is invaluable to me. Xx

If you have a meter, then it would be a very good idea to test when you feel unwell/wobbly as your reading will give you an indication of whether it is likely related to your diabetes or not.

I’ve not really had nausea or lightheadedness as a regular part of my diabetes experience. I get feelings of ‘weirdness’ with low BG, but not really what I would thunk of as lightheadedness.

Without BG readings it’s hard to know if whatever you have experienced may have had a BG reason I think?

Thats a good idea thank you x

That is a heft amount of carbs - I eat no more than 40 in a whole day in order to get normal readings. Are you sure you can cope with that amount all at once? My BG would be sky high.

So would I, plus very high BG makes me feel nauseous cos it signifies probable ketones ....

I know I'm T1, but 48g carb and no insulin would increase the reading on a BG meter by 15.0 !!

Bloods were 7.1 tonight. Am I right in that am should be between 4 & 7 and pm should be no higher then 8.5 for T2?

That was always the general guidance as far as I recall.

4-7 before meals, and no higher than 8.5 by 2hrs after meals
