Today is 1 year since my step son Ross passed away at 21 my heart goes to his dad whom i am engaged to. I've not felt much of an appetite so just had 2 plain rich tea biscuits with a cup of tea for my lunch, its not ideal and im trying hard not to feel stressed as this has an affect on my BMs. My fiancé loves all food and has suggested a Chinese take away this evening for dinner, but I find Chinese take away pushes up my BMs so i want to avoid that but dont want to be a killjoy, any suggestions on what I could eat i thought maybe beef with tomatoes and a portion of mushrooms? Do you guys indulge occasionally in this type of food? Please advise? Thank you. Laura

If I recall, you're on Novorapid and Lantus, so if you've no appetite, don't eat if you don't want to - you can miss meals on Novorapid.

If you are looking at Chinese takeaway, eat whatever you like from the menu and just cover with your Novorapid. Just watch out for the sauces as they usually contain more sugar and cornflour than you might think, and obviously rice and noodles are high carb. If you're not hungry, don't want too much blood sugar stress and don't want to make others feel bad about ordering a takeaway, maybe go for something like one of the soups.

But the bottom line is, order what you want to eat. Your insulin regime is designed to let you eat what you like, when you like.

Have you been taught to carb count Laura, or do you take fixed injections of novorapid? With carb counting you match the dose to the amount of carbs in the food you want to eat, so you basically have the freedom to eat what you want, when you want. If you haven't been taught yet, then I would recommend getting on to your nurse to arrange a course 🙂

I don't have a Chinese often but I did tonight. We shared a quarter crispy duck, some dry spare ribs and mushroom foo yung. I have no issues with this choice. Sorry if this post is too late.

Hi Riri thank you it's not too late, we have eaten but its so good to know from others so thank u. Hey I never thought of crispy duck that sounds delicious 🙂

Hi northerner im going to get on a course i heard of DAFNE . I am carb counting now and taking insulin to match it. Im trying to get used to it. It's lovely to have the freedom. Im learning about fruit and low fat foods i can't believe i was encouraged carbs! Carbs im cutting now. I really need help and tips to get hba1c down.

Lower carb helps Laura, but if you get your insulin right, maybe you don't need to.

I'm not sure why you are going low fat though? Unless you need to lose a lot of weight?

Hi trophy wench thank you. I think the low fat is because i want to be healthier, im not overweight just realising that i had some health blips this past 2 years
