I know one person who got Dexcom because of hypo unawareness but they had additional issues. Even then, it was a bit of a fight. I suspect it depends on your local area.

I didn’t have hypo unawareness but I did have horrible nocturnal hypos. I got a pump because of that and it basically solved the problem.

Even without a pump, different insulins might help or splitting your dose.

Yes, it's not the first thing they'll think of trying. (It's probably much easier to get one if you're a child. Guidelines for children are a bit different.)
 
Some CCG's have a blanket ban on prescribing them though. Cornwall certainly does.
