Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I have been a member for a long time but for some reason I had to renew my membership. No problem! I was diagnosed with T1 when I was four years old in 1951. Growing up with diabetes and as an adult I just learned as much as a could about my condition. Up to now I have no complications so I must have learned the right things! I was diagnosed with secondary progressive MS in my early thirties. I have always been very active, hiking , swimming, but now I’m slowing down quite a bit. My driving licence was taken away at the age of 70 when It was due to be renewed. I had to to take a Fit to drive test, the reason given was MS. I miss the freedom, it’s so hilly where I live, although I have a rollater, it’s difficult getting up those hills! I love gardening, my partner John has made the garden easy for me to manage. I love watercolour painting. Before I retired, my job was in textile design. I have a fifty year old son who is a musician and lovely! His father was a designer. I have two fantastic grandsons and beautiful daughter in law. How lucky am I

Hi and welcome.

So sorry to hear that your license was revoked. Really feel for you there, but sounds like you have had a wonderful life despite your health conditions and still have plenty to give you pleasure and make life interesting and enjoyable.

You certainly are a great example and inspiration to people like myself who are relatively newly diagnosed, so many thanks for sharing your story and I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

I wonder if you would enjoy participating in the "Group 7-day waking average" thread which is where some of us regulars log in with our morning fasting reading and exchange a bit of news and banter. It is a bit like a virtual coffee morning and support group. Here is a link to the thread if you fancy joining us, you would be very welcome and once you post regularly we get to know you a bit better and vice versa, it is nice to have a bit chat. Don't try to read the thread from the beginning as it is impossibly long, but feel free to just jump in tomorrow with your waking/fasting reading and any snippets of info you might want to share about your planned day ahead, thoughts, worries celebratory moments etc...

Maybe see you there in the morning or whenever you feel like joining us.

Welcome back to the forum @coocoohibi

You certainly have loads of experience which it will be great to tap into. It must be a big change no longer driving, but it sounds like you are very busy.

As a weaver my eyes lit up at the mention of textiles. What sort of textiles were you designing? We have a thread Procrftination (I have tried to put in the link but failed!! Help and instruction please @everydayupsanddowns -I know you have shown me before!!) where you can see some of what members have made. Join in if you fancy it.

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the welcome! I began with furnishing textiles, then I did a bit of tea-towel design which was fun! I no longer have any designs to show, all sold, thankfully! I had to retire early because of MS, but still paint. Began with pastel, it was easier to use. Then watercolour. x

If you put Procraftination in the search engine it will take you to that thread (I should be able to give you the link but I can’t remember how -sorry). It is good to see what people are up to apart from their diabetes Management. There is also a gardening thread. Join in with whatever appeals to you. Oh and we are also here to help with managing Diabetes if you need help, or you can help others

Thanks @rebrascora Beat me to it!

If you can remember your previous username @coocoohibi ?

If you like I could merge your accounts.

I think I have managed to put some paintings on here! Here goes..
