I'm not trying to be nosey but I'm just wondering how the more experienced members levels behave during the day as I know we are supposed to be between 4-7 pre meal and I get slightly down if I'm out of range by the slightest for instance a 7.3 I just had before my tea, and wondered if I'm the only one who gets like this x

My target range is 4-8 and my consultant and DSN are very happy if 50% of my results are within this target. I have had detailed discussions with them about this but also respect my consultant because she has just published a diabetes paper in the BMJ.

Mine vary a lot, i'm super insulin sensitive always have been, my daily totals are only about 21 units for basal and bolus (pump) and don't need much for basal and bolus day and night. I like to be between 4 and 7mmol, but i don't stress if i get an 8+ its just a number to tell me what i need to do. Mine naturally creep up around shark week then i know i need to up my insulin for a few days. Same goes with stress, If i get mega stressed or upset i get some pretty impressive spikes. But after 28 years i don't let the numbers stress me unless they are going haywire and need wrestling back into submission lol. Its kinda like everything else in life, no such thing as perfection.

you have absolutely awesome control and you should be proud of that. 🙂 When you were diagnosed did you get the 'control it or get complications' speech from the doc or nurse? That was common practice back when i was diagnosed to scare you into keeping perfect control. It seems to me like you seem to think 0.3 mmol is somehow a failure if its over 7mmol. Most BG meters vary and one meter could say you are 6.3 and a different meter might say you are 7.5 at the same time. Or test 2 different fingers and you will get a different result from both. BG meters are not perfect and exact so do not worry about a 7.3 You could well have been more like 6.9 there is roughly a 15% variance in results. please don't stress over the tiny numbers 🙂

Watching with interest as I'm all over the place at the moment 🙄

My daily totals are 17 units for basal and bolus, I don't have shark week haha, no I didn't get that speech, I know I shouldn't be worried or getting down about a 7.3 as it's stupid really but it's just the feeling of seeing the grey line for it rather that the green 'in range' strip, in reality I know I am doing quite well considering the constant struggles many of the folk on here go through x

I don't know if you're only meaning type 1's Kaylz but I'm usually between 6.4 and 8.4 (though I aim for no more than 7.8 really 2 hrs after meals.
I've averaged about 6.7 all day today.

I tend to stay within a margin of 3 points which I'm happy with and never drop below 5 even with starvation! That's the difference with type 1's, I appreciate that. I think I'd need to go on a maths crash course if I was type 1! 😱

Lucy no offence but this isn't the first thread of mines you've decided to watch with interest please ask your own questions :D only joking of course though hun 🙂 (I do have a wicked sense of humour) xx

Oh the grey line! hate that thing! accu check expert? Try changing the meter settings to 4-8mmol or 4-7.5mmol , technically 7.3 is still in the 7's and anything 8 and over would be out of range and grey line, then you would still get a green line for the 7.3 🙂 Alot of this diabetes stuff is mental too. little things like that can mess with your head. x

@Amigo no it doesn't have to be just Type 1's anyone's input is welcome 🙂, luckily maths was a strong point with me so I have no problems there thank goodness 🙂 x

My libre range is set between 4.2 and 8.5. I tend to start feeling hypo at about 4.0. I hope not to go above 9.5, even after eating but sometimes I do and I don't fret about it as I know it'll come down pretty soon, plus it depends what my pre meal reading was. As long as I am in my range about 90% of the time (which libre shows I am) I'm happy.

Yup spot on with the meter brand haha, they sure can and it's the stupid little things that in turn get you down, I'm not too bothered about the 7.3 well it didn't stop me stuffing a 25g bar of 85% choccy down the throat after tea anyway 😳 lol x

I'm fairly lucky that most of the time I am within range, but I err towards the hypo position most of the time because of the sensitivity issue so it's not without its issues. I used to get quite perturbed by double figures when they occurred but I'm fairly cool with it now. It's a weird thing, you just gradually relax into it without realising. These days a double figure will get a raised eyebrow at best because I'm doing the best I can but I'm not a pancreas, I'm just a woman with a pen and a meter and there's only so much I can do. A bit of a tip though, I made my meter stop flashing lights and lines and arrows at me, I can see the number I don't need it making noises and flashing amber lights at me, it just makes me feel a bit fraught and judged 😉

Hell I can understand you not wanting a flashing, nagging meter KC. It's a bit like having scales that flash and scream 'Get Off' when the weight is up! :D

I have the Contour Next One meter and you can set your own parameters. Mine is green between 4.0 and 8.0

I can change the ranges but the DSN changed it from 4-8 to 4-7 back in January x

Every now & then I do finger prick tests every hour to see how I do throughout the day. I seem to stay steady in the 5's between meals. & usually no higher than the 6's after food, unless i'm being naughty, of course.:D

I have my libre reader set 4 - 9 and the consultant is happy with that. On my spreadsheet I have it so that levels between 7 and 9 show as a darker green than 4 - 7

I used to be like you but eventually realised that I was going to drive myself totally mental if I didn't learn to relax a bit, you have to be able to enjoy your life too! Actually I think that's one of the hardest things, trying to find the right balance between micromanaging your D to the extent that you don't enjoy anything, and enjoying life so much that your D-control is too slack!

I'm dealing with a growing child who is also at the beginning of puberty, so it's practically impossible to have perfect numbers all the time, in fact if we get more than a couple of days like that I think we're doing rather well. We're getting too many readings in the teens at the moment, not ideal but I'm working on it; a few weeks ago daughter was hypo several times a day so I reduced all her insulin and am now finding that I'm having to put it all up again, so it goes :( We are now at my parents' for a few days though, and daughter is more likely to go low here so no point trying to mess around with basal etc here as she'll go high again when we get home. Sigh. Will have to just try to manage with temp basals for a few days, that failed last night though and I set it too low, can't win sometimes! Your control is bl**dy excellent, try not to stress about it!

That must be a constant battle Sally...you have my admiration!

As a sortov newbie my levels are okay throughout the day if I stick with the Atkins but go awry if I go off it which I keep doing.
