Thank you , you have made me laugh 🙂 i was naughty last night😱 i felt down so had a bounty 😳 and walkers plain crisps my sugars went high after so now... to mean business my shopping has arrived with things i have not tried, might be wrong stuff i don't know lots of veg, fruit ,chicken, not tried cheese strings, baby bell , Marmite, seaded bread, oats, and Greek yogurt and fresh blue berry's but always have beef, ham ,tuna i need my own personal chef... would be great 😛
For the fruit concentrate on Berries, BBlackberries, raspberries, strawberries and Blueberries. Veg the green stuff above ground, Be careful with the breads and oats. Always check the carb content in things you buy.

Sorry to hear you are struggling @TIGGY

I know that quite a few on here have found that things are easier to manage once they switch to using insulin, especially if they use Multiple Daily Injections. It enables them to correct their levels more effectively.

You might try lower carb bread Hovis lower carb is one that I use I only have one slice a day with plenty of cheese toasted If you can do without bread altogether even better !

Hi @TIGGY

Just reading this for the first time and it seems you really need help with your diet to eat low carb and perhaps develop a testing regime to help you tailor your diet to your particular body's intolerance of carbs. This is done by testing before eating and then 2 hours after. Keeping a food diary along with your readings and reducing the portion of carbs in that meal if your reading 2 hours after the meal is more than 3mmols higher than before you started eating.

I can give you examples of what I eat following a low carb, higher fat way of eating if you like or you could tell us what you currently eat on an average day for breakfast, lunch and evening meal and we can make suggestions for alternatives.

I found that eating more fat was the game changer for finding a way of eating that was low carb and sustainable, because it is enjoyable. It takes a bit of getting used to because I don't eat bread or pasta and only have potatoes or rice very occasionally. I now only eat twice a day and I don't feel hungry because the fat in my diet keeps me feeling full as it takes much longer to digest. Because I hardly eat any carbs I don't put on weight and if I need to lose a little I just cut back on my fat intake a bit... ie one less chunk of cheese and go easy on the pork scratchings (my guilty pleasure) for a month.

I eat much less food now than I ever used to and I feel better for it.... and interestingly despite eating lots of cheese and cream and fatty meat and eggs my cholesterol is actually reducing and my ratios are good, so all the things we were told about eating fat seems to be wrong and in fact eating low fat usually means we end up eating more carbs and that can lead to obesity and diabetes, so our efforts to eat low fat may in part have caused the obesity and diabetes epidemic we are currently seeing in the western world.

Anyway, just wanted to reach out to you as you sound like you are going through a really rough time at the moment and happy to help with getting your diet sorted if you want pointers.

Sorry to hear everything that you are going through @TIGGY

It certainly seems that you are struggling with the amount and types of carbohydrate you are eating.

So sorry to hear about your cancer and your brothers too. That’s a lot of stress to be under... which will also have the potential to raise your BG :(

hugs to you.

Hi i have not been on for awhile but still i have itchy feet sooo fed up , on top of every thing else my other brother had a heart attack on Sunday hes 61 and always been fit slim and active hes currently in hospital but because of the Covid no one can visit.. i am still struggling i am getting there with my cancer treatment 3 years in and clear, my diet is poor... for breakfast i have a bowl of bran flakes yuk, or 1 slice of seeded bread if i have it in , or 1 boiled egg crisp bread... but on a weekend bacon 1 sausage egg and beans which i love. lunch is sardines salad or cottage cheese and 2 crisp bread, or small jacket with tuna or cheese...dinner small chicken or beef dinner or sea bass ,salad or chicken curry and rice the odd yogurt and fruit , snack crisps nuts and new to me dried apricots which i have stopped .. they seem too sweet , because my feet are still itching ... i hate the numbers, i am lazy with testing i do not like the pricks and i do not know what they mean at all ... but my recent check up was high again, got to go back in 3 months, i have check ups on feet, eyes. weight and bp all ok except weight could be lower.. but i am not that bad. i am active but feel tired and i cant sleep at all .. Sorry to go on but im almost 15 years in and still getting no where with it. :confused:Thank you to all.

So sorry to hear about your brother on top of the cancer treatment and everything else going on. The stress really can't be helping your BG levels. I hate being itchy and the fatigue is horrible.

From what you've outlined about your diet, it does seem quite high in carbs and, if you don't like bran flakes, don't eat them! Many on here have a handful of berries with full fat Greek style yoghurt as it does not impact BG levels.

I appreciate you don't like pricking your fingers but it's the only way to learn what you can tolerate.

Why not try testing a couple of times a day around say before breakfast and two hours after. The numbers aren't terribly important. What you are looking for is the difference between the two. You want the rise to be below 3mmol. Any higher, then your body is struggling to cope with the carb load and you can make tweaks to your meal or find alternatives. Once you have breakfast sorted, change your testing focus to a different mealtime.

Keep a food diary, pay attention to the carbs you are eating eg weigh your rice portion, and record your bg results to help you figure it all out.

This should help bring your numbers down and relieve your symptoms.

Just looking at a snippet of your diet I can see lot's of carbs the book Carbs & Cals which you can buy here will really help you it is a real shocker finding what foods are high in carbs.

Hi Tiggy - just a thought because I also get a bit of itching in my feet and it's generally when I can't get to slee, feel a bit stressed and then start to get annoyed and the loop begins.

Judging by your last post you are obviously very stressed, and here's the thing. What if its not t1 related? Years ago I was complaining to my mum about the itching feet at night - and she told me that some people with restless leg syndrome will experience itching rather than the need to flail about. RLS is notorious for cropping up qhen stressed so I'm wondering if it could also be the cause of your itching?

I know diabetes is very complex and effects the whole body, but its not always to blame so may not be the cause in this instance?

Either way sending best wishes to you and your family.

That is exactly what came to my mind, also if your feet are too hot they can feel itchy. Have you tried antihistamine to relieve the itching?
For ideas for meals have a look at the thread What did you eat yesterday where people post their meals and that may give you some inspiration for low carb foods.

Your diet is really high in carbs - it might be a good idea to cut them out or down as few type twos can go on eating bread, potatoes and rice - good thing you stopped the dried apricots as they are almost all sugar.

Hi thank you to all 🙂 yes it must be too many cabs apart from eating berries yogurt salad chicken and fish what else can i eat.. i only have 2 ryvitas but i was thinking they were ok ..i will not get any more... jacket potatoes not often.. not much for them.. i thought the itching could be from the medication but looking at this must be the carbs.. so i will eat yogurt berries for breakfasts what about boiled or poached egg is that ok just heard my brother is coming home today so feel happier . thank you for your help.

Egg's are your friend very good in any form.

There are a few thing you need to be careful with but 2 ryvitas is about 11g carb so should be OK compared to your jacket potato which if only about the size of a large egg is going to be about 20g carb. The breakfast would be good if you leave off the beans or just have a few as a couple of desert spoons (80g) would be 12g carb.
It really depends on how many carbs you are allowing yourself in the day but it is better to spread it out among your meals rather than all in one. If you are inclined to snack between meals then choose low carb foods like nuts, seeds, veg sticks, a chunk of cheese are all good.
Have a look for low carb or Keto recipes on the internet and I'm sure you will find some good ideas.
It is also important to find foods and meals you like and build up a repertoire of meals including meat, fish, eggs, cheese and vegetables, nuts and seeds, dairy and berries are all good choices. Go for the full fat versions of things as they generally have less carb than the low fat variety.
