Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Morning Everyone again or good evening if you don't read these post until later. My memory as just informed me that I am Insulin Resistance can some one on this forum tell me what it means? Does it mean that every time I take insulin my body won't except it and gets rid of it which is why I am struggling with my diabetes. There is more to this diabetes than meets the eye so it's time to take note and stop my laid back attitude and make things work for me and try and shift this heavy weight that I am over weight by a lot.

There is a good book about type 2 diabetes called The Diabetic Code by Dr Jason Fung. Get a copy and read it as he explains all about insulin resistance. IR is caused by insulin - sounds crazy ! In the same way that a lot of drugs e.g. cocaine or whatever, regular use blunts the effects. It's the same with some hormones such as insulin, eating too many carbs for too long constantly stimulates insulin to the point where its effect is reduced. How this happens is quite complex but Dr Fung explains the mechanisms in a way that is not too complicated. Good luck.

OMG I had the very book in my hand, as you say a good explanation. Basically the insulin the body produces does not lower glucose levels produced from the carbohydrates you eat, so the body then produces more insulin but it will eventually fail to keep pace with a high carbohydrate diet so blood glucose rises to a level giving a diabetic diagnosis.

Losing weight can help with insulin resistance, also many Type 2's and even some Type 1's take metformin alongside insulin to help with resistance, those with insulin resistance tend to need much higher doses of insulin, @Lanny is an example (sorry hun) but she's on a basal/bolus regime rather than a mixed insulin like yourself, your body doesn't get rid of the insulin it just doesn't use it as it should xx

Thank you Kaylz and I am so sorry for posting my thread back on how I was feeling on having a hypo at 2.3 and saying I wasn't hop skipping up or down the garden path and how do you think I felt. Please except my apologies on this matter

Please understand I didn't mean to offend you, I just hadn't read a previous thread that you were on Humulin and you hadn't mentioned insulin usage in that particular thread and meters can give false readings, I do apologise but it wasn't my intention to make you angry or anything xx

No I was the one in the wrong not you Kaylz I should learn to think before I speak. But thanks for getting back to me it is much appreciated as is everyone who sends me feedback on this diabetes forum. I would be lost without the help from people who know what they are talking about.
