Oh heck.... someone has put my mums delivery of insulin pens into the freezer thinking it's the fridge as there are glass shelves at the top, albeit there's just one door... I've just found them in there and they are frozen solid.

Can they be used when defrosted?

Do we have to pay for the replacements?
Do I contact the pharmacy or the GP?
I don't want to get the delivery guy into trouble but I need to get the insulin for my mum.
What a pickle.

Thankfully there's one pen in the fridge.

I went out on errands today, I had a feeling I should stay home.

No the insulin is now unusable I'm afraid.

Why are the delivery people even putting things in your mom's fridge? - cos they are clearly to blame. Hence contact whoever is responsible for the delivery people.

Is it the pharmacy who delivered it? If so, I'd contact the pharmacy and ask for replacements pronto!

the bag had a sticker on it - refrigeration

I don't know if the delivery man or the carer put it there, mistaking it for the fridge.

my mum isn't very mobile and whoever did it was doing a kindness
she's trying to remember who and what, having had a few TIA strokes and getting over a chest infection she's struggling with short term memory at the moment.

I'm not sure if it froze solid all through, been in there 8 to 9 hours and is defrosted now so might have been partially frozen or fully frozen, either way there was frozen insulin in those pens. unless it was condensation as they are in the caps in the box.... hmmmm
maybe insulin is fast at defrosting!

I will get onto the pharmacy tomorrow.

Thanks Trophywench and Northerner

Everyday is a schoolday in diabetes world!

Sorry to hear about this @Seabreeze

As others have said, that insulin can no longer be used I’m afraid, and needs to be replaced. It was a simple mistake, you won’t be asked to pay for it.

It's the same with insulin while travelling. You have to keep it in your hand luggage, there’s a risk of it freezing if it goes in the aircraft hold.

What a palava!
Pharmacy swear blind their driver doesn't come into the house not allowed so won't be him, they said new prescription required.
So then presume the care worker who handed the meds he'd left on the side to my mum, perhaps she put them in the freezer.

The surgery does repeat prescription calls after 1030 hrs, then it should be sorted.

Never a dull moment!

What an unneeded drama that was. Glad you got sorted in the end!
