On the accu chek aviva expert meter, is there an option to view how much active insulin on board is left?

My understanding is, No. And Yes.

There is an 'active insulin' displayed (as part of the bolus correction screen if memory serves, before you press 'confirm')

I was greatly confused by the number shown here when testing soon after meals (where the 'active insulin' was only showing a fraction of a unit, despite a significant bolus 'on board'.

I called Roche's lovely helpline and they told me that the 'Active Insulin' was only tracking the 'correction' portion of any bolus. It wasn't tracking any insulin allocated against carbs.

The only way I found to track the full dose, was to back-out of the bolus advice acreen just before confirming. Then to add the suggested bolus manually (without re-using the wizard). These manually added boluses seemed to get included in the 'Active Insulin' figure.

Then again I did have a fairly early Expert and things may have changed since.

Thanks same as you very confused by all the numbers on the screen. alot to get used to on this meter compared to the verio iq I've swapped from. From that I assume the meter thinks the meal bolus is completely covered by the food eaten not allowing any error. After all it is I who entered all the ratios. Just need to make sure their all 100% correct.

Yes I think that's the way they have done it. Rather than have people freaking out when they see they have as much insulin active as they actually do (and not realising that it is all 'allocated' against carbs already eaten and being digested!)

Took me a good few months to get my Expert set up right. Partly it was discovering what the Expert needed to *think* was happening in order to give me good advice (in terms or ranges/meal rises/duration etc). After a while though it was a great help in stabilising my numbers, and provided whole weeks of really good control here and there - so keep tweaking!
