Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I all, I am type2 diabetic have been for 10 years now. Unfortunatly diet and meds are no longer working and I have been given 4 weeks to try a low carb diet to try and get my blood sugar down. I was threatened with Insulin 18 months ago and drasticly changed my diet and lost over 2 stones, but reading about a low carb diet it seems that I have been doing something similar all this time. Just concerned about the transition to Insulin.

I am the opposite and have been trying to switch to insulin as tablets are not helping me. Hoping to switch to when I get to see the specialist nurse in April though don't want to switch to mixed insulin as I don't eat at the same time every day.

Hi Crookie
Well done on the weight loss and managing to keep the blood sugar down so far. What Worries you about the transition to insulin? I ask because there are lots of us insulin stabbers here who can probably help you feel a bit more comfortable with it. For reference I was an adult diagnosis with diabetes so I had 39 years of normal (anyone who knows me will be laughing heartily that I've just used the word normal in reference to myself 😉) beforehand. If you tell us abit more about what you're worried about we'll do our best to help 🙂

Hi and welcome. Well done on losing 2 stones. 🙂

Been to see consultant today, got to see nurse at diabetic clinic very soon.
going to be put on toujeo, anybody got experience of this please?

Hi CROOKIE. Im a T2 insulin stabber 🙂. Please ,please don't be afraid of it ok, I call it my go juice :D. Just Like me the pills are no longer enough for you, This happens sometimes no matter how hard we try.
I suspect that you are worried about certain things, talk to us about them, we can help. Needles and hypo's are the usual worries.
The one they are putting you on is a long acting background (basal) insulin. I'm on a different one but it does the same job. I believe Yours its given once a day, others here will know for sure.

yes consultant said just once a day. I have never had a hypo so its new ground for me, I drive an ambulance for the NHS and believe I will be taken off the road for a period of time and have to tell the DVLA , but can still drive my own car? thanks for the reply. I will post again when I am on insulin.

You can still drive your car, but your licence will be a three year one. I stopped driving years ago nothing to do with D, so am not up with the dvla regs with insulin, others here will know
