I have been on a DAFNE course and adjust my dosage of Humalog to my meals. However, I usually stick to the same diet at home, so use 9 or 10 units for breakfast, 8 for lunch and 12 for dinner. After twenty years my requirement (to keep my readings within range) suddenly increased six months ago to double dose for the same effect. My doctor said there was no need to worry, as he has a lady who takes 100 units a day. It worries me that I need all this insulin (plus 14 unit of Lantus insulin each night). I am classed as type 2. Can anyone advise if this change is normal, and whether type 1 users use this higher dosage as normal? It is actually running at two and a half times my old dose now.
