Just being nosey but would you mind me asking what are your insulin to carb ratio? I find this fascinating.

Mine vary through the day. I need about 1 unit per 3g carbs in the morning, 1 unit per 6g carbs at lunchtime and 1 unit per 10g carbs in the evening! 🙂

At the moment, mine are 1u:7g morning and 1:10 dinner and teatime.

A couple of months ago it was 1:9, 1:10 and 1:12 but then Autumn came along and my active day got shorter 🙄

1 unit to 10g in the morning....1 unit to 20g midday (although i need to look at this again) and 1:10 in the evening and if later than 9pm i tend to need alot more that that, but i rarely inject that late anyway 🙂

Haha thanks such a gentleman 😛

Do you think the aliens have developed a cure? If they have they can take me now!

Morning is a 1u:10g +3u corrective to cover dawn silliness (always use it even with no food first off)
Lunch and Dinner is 1u:14g as is any snacks through a day.

At present I'm injecting 1u for every 8g of carbs for breakfast and dinner, evening is 1u for every 10g of carbs.

2.7 units per 10g at breakfast, 2 units per 10g lunch, 2.5 units per 10g dinner.

Correction dose is 1 unit per 1 mmol

:Just recently changed to:

3 units for every 10 grams for breakfast

1 unit to every 10 grams for lunch

1.5 units to every 10 grams for dinner

2 units to every 10 grams for supper

As the correction doses have been mentioned, my complicated rules are as follows:

BG level at:

below 10 = 1 unit drops 2.5

10 - 13 = 1 unit drops 2

13 - 17 = 1 unit drops 1.5

above 17 = 1 unit drops 1

:D

According to my pump my carb ratios are:

00:00 20
11:00 19
16:00 24

No idea what this is in relation to units of insulin to carbs? Still new to pumping and haven't totally got my head round it all, so if anyone can explain....??

I think that may mean that between the hours of:

00:00 - 11:00 - 1 unit for 20g

11:00 - 16:00 - 1 unit for 19g

16:00 - 00:00 - 1 unit for 24 g

I think.....🙂

K has 1 unit for every 4 carbs at breakfast
1 unit for every 5 carbs at lunch
and 1 unit for every 5 carbs for her evening meal

She also injects if she wants a large snack in the afternoon in which case it is 1 unit for every 5 carbs(again) but then we usually deduct 2 units from the total because she is allowed a 15g snack without injecting

We do not adjust for bs readings under 10 but for every 3 over 10 she would have an extra unit ( so bs 13 yesterday lunch time :( so she had 1 extra unit)

The breakfast ratio doesnt work if she has scrambled egg for breakfast so she doent anymore

Surprised that K takes that much insulin, I am quite insulin resisant, 6ft 4 and a big guy so not surprising for me. Looking at her ratios I'm very surprised that you have been told not to cover snacks of 15g, surely on her ratio regime that is equivalent to 3 units!? also would have guessed her correction dose would have been higher looking at her ratios.

Have you thought of pump therapy....it is the best thing I have ever done after 15 years of MDI, a pump has been perfect for my lifestyle and so much more flexible, exercising and eating whenever I want at the touch of a bolus button! 🙂

I'm 10g:1.5u.....for now!

Just had my lantus reduced again following lots of hypos, sickness and then the reactive highs. been a tough week :(

Was that the BERTIE educators that adjusted your Lantus, how is it going?

(Sorry, don't know how to just quote part of your post)

Do you adjust below 10? I really like your idea of using more insulin when the BG is high, starting to try that now, although adjustments often seem to make me go hypo, as though the insulin level was correct but hasn't caught up yet

00:00 - 11:00 - 1 unit for 6g
11:00 - 17:00 - 1 unit for 6.5g
17:00 - 21:30 - 1 unit for 5g
21:30 - 00:00 - 1 unit for 6g

Although I am starting to think I am much more affected by 'other' things than food sometimes - I have EXACTLY the same for breakfast every day, but often get dramatically different results mid morning and lunchtime. Same with lunch when I have the same sandwiches 2 days running.

I know, I know, keep testing!
