Insulin and air travel?

Well I don't want to chance anything at the moment Mike. Belt and braces it may be, but I'd rather do that right now.

How do you feel about the flight itself, that would be my only concern.
Same as I don't mind being in a spacious aired out cafe or pub but don't want to go to the cinema.
I watched something about this concern the other day and it was saying that an aircraft is one of the cleanest places you could ever be. The air inside is filtered through operating surgery grade filters at a rate of the whole cubic footage every 3 minutes. I never realised how clean the air was.

Possibly, I think some airlines will be better than others, I know someone who works for one and they said even at the end of the day the plane is never fully cleaned. Some airlines operate at such low margins they haven’t got room to spend extra on more cleaning.

But Icompletely understand wanting to go on holiday.
A friend of mine died during lockdown she hadn’t left the house or Seen her family for weeks and she died via an accident, having spent the last few weeks of her life bored and unhappy. We must live our lives

I like your final sentence @PhoebeC - but can't give your post a general 'Like'.

Pete and I have long agreed - and ex-aircrew friends have agreed - that since they banned smoking on planes, the air quality within planes has suffered, something to do with the amount of actual fresh air they used to be obliged to let in, as against now. Sometimes when we have the A/c in cars on, I'm dropping asleep and have to open a window whether it's freezing cold, lashing down with rain or what.

It was thank you Mark, and as a result I tried to get on online quote for Travel Insurance as we don't have any. Unfortunately the All Clear site is going round in circles and won't continue after answering all the Qs (quite sensible ones!) about my husband's COPD. Haven't had a chance to even start on mine yet!

I'll try again tomorrow. If we can get insurance at a reasonable price (which with COPD, Diabetes/Higher BP/ Hypothyroid/PAD, isn't usually likely) then we'll have it cos otherwise it's a straight choice whether we risk the whole price of the holiday and chance CV19 not causing it to be cancelled. Or us getting it! LOL

People returning to the UK from Spain (including islands) from midnight tonight (25 July 2020) will need to self-isolate for 2 weeks, with the country removed from the travel corridors list.

Following a significant change over the last week in both the level and pace of change in confirmed cases, Spain has been removed from the list of countries where people do not have to self-isolate when arriving into to the UK.

People currently on holiday in Spain are encouraged to follow the local rules, return home as normal and check the FCO’s travel advice pages on GOV.UK for further information.

FCO is advising against all but essential travel to mainland Spain – this does not cover the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands because travel advice is based on the risk to the individual traveller and COVID-19 infection rates are lower there than mainland Spain.

People will still need to self-isolate when returning from anywhere in Spain as well as the Canary and Balearic Islands because self-isolation arrangements are put in place on the basis of risk to the UK as a whole.

A government spokesperson said:

The Joint Biosecurity Centre together with Public Health England have updated their coronavirus assessments of Spain based on the latest data. As a result, Spain has been removed from the lists of countries from which passengers arriving in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are exempted from the need to self-isolate.
Protecting public health is our absolute priority and we have taken this decision to limit any potential spread to the UK.
We’ve always been clear that we would act immediately to remove a country where necessary. Both our list of quarantine exemptions and the FCO travel advice are being updated to reflect these latest risk assessments.
Changes to the exemption for people returning from Spain will take effect from midnight tonight, meaning anyone returning from midnight tonight will have to self-isolate.

The government has made consistently clear it will take decisive action if necessary to contain the virus, including if the public health risk of people returning from a particular country and not self-isolating becomes too high.

The devolved administrations have all taken the same decision today, so travellers arriving from Spain into all parts of the UK will need to self-isolate.

The government is urging employers to be understanding of those returning from Spain who now will need to self-isolate.

@atoll - again I don't wish to 'Like' your post - but I do wish to thank you for telling me!

I'm just going to wait and see what happens FTB - and see if the travel company start sending stroppy letters for our money - out of all of us, only we two are retired, however lots of the younger adults have jobs, sooooooo .....

all very annoying, and with big implications for those with pre existing conditions who will need to buy comprehensive health insurance alongside travel insurance for travel to the eu from next year.

these regional lock downs will get very interesting if people on holiday in say barcelona get locked down for a few weeks or months before their holiday is over, then have to do another 2 weeks once they are finally allowed to leave,as happened in march april,or vice versa.
with a million new cases every 3 days or so and growing exponentially it will not be long before only essential travel is allowed imho

@atoll - don't get confused - the EHIC arrangement pre-dates the EEC let alone the EU, hence our leaving the EU should not affect it. In an emergency, we are entitled to exactly the same medical treatment as citizens of that country, It isn't free there of course, but Likewise if anyone from the EU holidays in the UK, they are entitled to the same as us in an emergency. If the UK Government decides to renege on that agreement then I fully expect the EU would retaliate but that hasn't happened yet so I'm not concerning myself.

In what way would the medical expenses section of a Travel Insurance policy NOT cover folk with pre- existing conditions? It can make the overall cost of a holiday abroad far too expensive for a lot of people of course - but if it does, it's a shame but there's plenty of places in the UK I've never seen yet and I assume that's the same for other people. Got more than a slight chance we'll be seeing some this year!

You can still get travel insurance if you have a pre-existing medical condition, such as cancer or diabetes. However, you may need a specialist policy as not all providers offer cover for pre-existing conditions in a standard policy.
