A Nottingham schoolgirl who has raised huge amounts of money for Diabetes UK and awareness of the condition in support of her nine-year-old cousin who lives with Type 1 diabetes has won a national volunteering award from the charity Diabetes UK.
Ellie Ross, 8, was presented with the Young People’s Outstanding Contribution Award in recognition of her hard work at the charity’s National Inspire Awards, in London earlier this month.
Ellie, who lives in Carlton, was seven when she did a sponsored seven-mile walk in the Peak District after being inspired by an item on BBC’s The One Show. She also organised a sponsored onesie day at her primary school to raise awareness and money.
