My mum has type 2. In the late 90's early 2000's summertimes she was always prone to gnat bites. Later, by a couple to 5 years got diagnosed t2 (after falling ill). I have a vague memory of her having TCP fluid in the house, and whether she used this for antibacterial purposes I don't know. Although it stings, if you can still buy it (or something like savlon), it's better than scratching the bites and she has marks from the bites even now! I guess she may not have wanted the TCP, I dunno... Strange connection between diabetes and being bitten.

Thanks Mike! To paraphrase @Vince_UK I am only a poor pensioner! I might splash out if it’s portable and I can carry it on my back whilst hiking through the wilderness of Cumbria and foreign climes! :D
Sorry Eggy, it runs on mains electricity. Put one on your Christmas list as a prezzy from the guy with the Jag! :D

Will ask the man with the Jag straight away! I heard about those machines on Jeremy Vine last week ( can’t abide the man but occasionally enjoy his show when he isn’t butting in and playing devil’s advocate ), they were talking to a woman who lives near Kielder forest and she spoke about how they use them there. I have been to Kielder forest once, in 1984, and we lasted all of 10 minutes! Never been back but might venture there now. Maybe! 😱

Thanks Pamela, I have been putting on a hydrocortisone cream but I can imagine TCP would probably be better, and yes I imagine it would sting! I have scars from mossie bites from years ago, the ones that get infected always leave a red patch.

Yep mum has the same. Yet I can advise one more thing... Not to scratch the bites yet tap them to take the itch away and help healing...
