Hi there, I have recently changed injection sites over into my other thigh, where I haven't injected into in years as there is alot of scar tissue that I got a couple years after being diagnosed and I was always too scared to incase it hurt too much, but I was advised to switch over, the last three or four injections I have done there (levemir), for each injection I have done, it's come up red and slightly raised in different places, I have never ever had this problem before with any other injection sites. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this and could possibly calm my anxiety down about it? Tia 🙂

No, I haven't had that with Levemir, but did with Lantus before I changed to Lev.

RE injection sites, I switch with every injection, so left thigh breakfast, right thigh dinner, alternate sides and height on stomach tea and alternate bum cheek for basal, I can't say I've noticed any issues doing it this way as every area gets at least 24 hours free
xx

Yes I change site every injection too. Arms, stomach, bottom, don’t use my legs that much as I don’t like doing it, I did years of just legs and I think I have scar tissue issues there actually.
Can you use any other sites?

I don't like legs either. Who advised you that you had to change to using your inner thighs and was there a reason given?

I like @Kaylz change my injection sites with each injection, outer thighs or top of bum
for background insulin and stomach for NovoRapid with food. May be worth having
another talk with your DSN?

In the finish now I have so very many non absorbent sites which don't have either moles or keratoses on them (which bleed like pigs if you stick anything in them) I have to stick my cannulas wherever WILL absorb for 2 days.

Outer thighs are absolutely NOT suitable as I destroyed all the underlying tissue beneath the outer layer of skin using them for jabs for the previous 35 or so years. Similarly though never EVER previously using my bum cheeks for jabs, about 3 or maybe 4 years ago (a while after I got the pump that says it's gonna die in 56 days time) I did start using parts of them for cannulas and guess what - on my left cheek I already have part that doesn't absorb too well. And slightly onto my inner thigh is currently quite good. How long it will be is anyone's guess.

my dsn had a sign showing 2 lines of three sites on the front of each leg and similar 2 lines if 3 sites either side the navel. this gives 24 sites (if you can remember) and gives time for a site to recover before it gets attacked again. my tummy is lumpy bumpy where I injected levemir previously.

not that I'm aware of hun, arms aren't even recommended these days xx

I only had reactions at injection sites with specific insulins - notably Lantus and Fiasp.

Sounds like it might be worth giving your DSN a call?

Vicsetter, you have flesh on the fronts of your thighs????? - You'll be telling me you have it on your shins next! :D

There is skin covering bones of course otherwise I'd be a skeleton and I'm certainly not, but just don't have a lot of flesh anywhere useful to a T1 diabetic.

I don't mind injecting into my thighs, I just didn't like doing it around my scars but I have been using the same leg for too long and wondering if its losing its potency so I was told to swap about but unsure of the reaction?

I'd definitely mention it to whoever medical deals with your diabetes - cos it could always be an allergy as they all use different ingredients in their recipes.
