Injection site still sore an hour later?

Hi guys. Occasionally when I inject with my Novorapid it might twinge a little bit and there'll be some discomfort for maybe a minute or so.

This morning when I inserted the needle it definitely hurt and an hour later the site still hurts. There's no redness or visible swelling or lumpiness. Just an unlucky jab or should I be concerned?

Sounds like you hit a nerve or even muscle. Are your needles the right length for you?

Nah, don't worry. It's an unlucky jab. If there are no obvious signs, you've just hit a nerve with the jab. It's like those times when you hit a blood vessel and you get a bruise. I agree with Redkite, maybe change the needle length.

My needles are Novofine 6mm. I'm 5'10" and weight 12 stone 10 so I'm not particularly overweight. I do feel like the needles are a bit long for my skinny legs! But I only inject those with Levemir once a night. The Novorapid goes around my tummy where there is a bit of spare tire

I use 4mm needles but some brands don't make them that short, they should do 5mm though.

6mm are the shortest Novofine make. BD and other brands do 5 or 4mms.

Try ringing eg BD and see if you can get a sample pack of shorter ones to try? Or, try asking your hospital DSN if she's got any she can give you and handful of.

I switched from 6mm to 4mm needles and in reducing the length I reduced the number of bruises that I had.

I still hit a nerve on rare occasions and it would hurt for a lot longer than hitting a blood vessel.
