Injecting in public

First time I've read this poem - nice one. I usually opt for the wall seat in some dark corner in a restaurant but we should all have the confidence to inject when we need to. A very wise fellow diabetic told me if he's challenged about injecting he points out, "I have to inject but you don't have to look" (or words to that effect). Perhaps we should all adopt this principle.

how do you feel about injecting in public , I now feel ok about it , but last week while in a coffee shop I use every week ,

I was injecting did not think anyone had seen me then this old guy shouted across the shop hey look at that junky , the shop owner did come across to say sorry about that an did ask the old guy to leave . must admit did :D put me of a bit but starting to inject again now while out and about .

I don't inject, but if someone needs to then that is fine. Most of the people I know who inject do it in as unobtrusive way as possible.

A diabetic injecting doesn't look like a junky, so I think people need more education. I was out with little feller one day when he spotted someone injecting, so I explained the injection was needed to keep the man healthy and it contained a medicine (at his level of understanding it is medicine) called insulin to stay healthy. Several other people heard, so hopefully they will remember.

Lol now that's a thread to start - how many times have you been caught with your trousers down! :D

Never - if I want to inject into my thighs in public (I only use thighs for morning and evening long acting doses, abdomen for short acting), I either inject through trouser fabric, or, more usually, as it's usually when I'm out in the field, marshalling on an adventure race, I'm either wearing shorts or zip off trousers, so can open the zip enough to inject through the resulting hole.

Wouldn't bother me anyway, there's nowt scary or obscene about thighs and nobody objected to em in the 1960's when we all wore skirts that barely covered the crotch of our knickers, let alone our stocking tops - so they can blooming well lump them now!

If I had to inject in public I would just do it. I'd be as discreet as everyone else is.

If someone called me a junkie I'd tell them it's prescribed medication and I don't do it for the fun of it.

As I have said before diabetics don't expose their genitals to inject so what is the fuss about?

A male secondary school pupil was in the news in the summer for wearing his sister's skirt to school instead of trousers, which he found too hot - shorts weren't part of school uniform - http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/Knees-up-on-TV-as-Chris-goes-global-13052011.htm

I've done it in restaurants and on the train with few problems. If I'm in public I normally stick it in my thigh through my trousers, or hitch up my skirt on the wall side so folk are less likely to notice.

A few years ago whilst sat down for a regimental dinner; a 'friend' sat opposite me and said something objectional to me about injecting in front of him, he said he had a phobia over needles! I continued to inject into my stomach (it is against mess rules to leave the table during a regimental dinner for any reason until after the toasts) and finished by spraying him over his head with a few units afterwards.....I warned him that he shouldn't lick his lips or he might have a hypo! 😉:D

When i was first diagonsed i used to always go the toilet because i was paranoid people were watching and talking, now i just do it sat at the table, in my belly, thought to myself sod what people think, and toilets are unhygenic

Nice one - although perhaps injecting through mess dress or suit trousers would have been OK?

My approach to regimental dinners (until I resigned to emigrate, got type 1 diabetes and couldn't rejoin) was to volunteer as duty officer, so I could stay in trousers, shirt & jersey, instead of wearing long skirt!

I wish there was a "like" button on here! This thread is so funny - Rob and Trophywench - you've had me in stitches! I shall be looking out for a suspicious guy in a car with his trousers round his knees, listen out for that tap on the window!! I inject in my stomach in public, it doesn't bother me and if it bothers anyone else they can move! Never had any objections but always half expect some as people can be so weird. Never injected in my thighs in public unless I'm wearing a skirt though!

K injects only in her arms and legs, and has (very bravely I think) gradually got used to injecting in public - usually arms as she finds arms the easiest - I know lots of people can't manage to inject in there arms but she always likes to be different:D

Only trouble we have had is our family friend (adult) who has a needle phobia, but he just looks away now, and the girl in Ks class who has a 'severe needle phobia' so K has been asked to make sure not to inject in her presence:( (which I have been ranting about in another thread in Parents section😱)

Suppose no one would assume a 12 year old was a 'junkie' although I always dread her having someone comment when she is out with her friends.

We have been told it is OK to inject through clothes if you have to, but K never has, not sure it would work as she has the 4mm needles...

Last night I was out for a meal with our son's boss, there were 6 of us including my husband. When the meal came up we were all chatting, I got my pen out raked out a naked bit of belly injected, rearranged myself & put the pen away.
Half way through my main course my husband grabbed my arm & said 'Have you done your jab' 'Yes I said' Everyone else just smiled. My husband stated 'Well I haven't got both hearing aids in'
Anyone else have problems with noise when they inject?😉

I hate injecting my son in public, the looks i get are unbelievable but i do like the sympathetic looks i get from other people though.
