In the Garden

Our first pick of 6 strawberries today, reserved for breakfast with Greek yoghurt tomorrow.

My biggest prob is slugs and snails demolishing seedlings before they get big enough. They are particularly selecting this year, the red lettuce, chinese cabbage and corriander.

Well I did my first courgette yesterday, and the salad is doing pretty good too (images below) and captured a very happy bumble bee disappearing into a snap dragon flower I also saw Mrs blackbird eyeing up the blueberries yesterday, not ripe yet, thought she was sunbathing on the lawn until I saw where her eye was drawn lol

Oh yes first time ever I am trying malabar spinach, apparently a superfood which can be grown as an indoor pot plant as well, I will see how it goes/grows. The leaves look a bit yellow in the picture I think camera light, they are greener than they appear.

Well done, my fruits are still green. I notice the redcurrent are starting to turn red though - birds have already been at them. I don't mind sharing some

We pulled up our first potatoes this week. Charlottes. They were delicious. I’ve one teeny tiny courgette on its way. Lettuce doing well, carrots look healthy, slugs ( and pigeons) have been at the brassicas. 😡 Mr Eggy has set beer traps, Aldi’s cheapest lager, for the slugs and netted them against the damn pigeons. Tomatoes are growing slowly but surely in the green house. Raspberries and redcurrants doing well. They’re all netted. But the strawberries are very disappointing. It’s only early June so maybe there’s time yet.

Ooh a lesser redpoll. I had my first ( and only) one last year in the garden. I was very excited. Yours is a better photo.

We had our neighbourhood Secret Gardens open day today, a weekend where local gardens allow people in for a bit of a look around. Lots of lovely conversations and over 400 people through the garden today alone!

What a lovely garden, I can see you have a lot of pots, a bit like me, I counted up and scared myself as I have over 50 of various sorts.

We had some Mexican Daisies and Ox Eye Daisies potted-up for people to offer donations. (they self-propagate all over!).

My plan is to strike /divide some lavenders and geraniums this autumn.
