Unfortunately the Goverment will deny that it's a blanket ban because that much is true. And they will deny it again, because this has been done shedloads of times already with shedloads of similar petitions. There was even an 'early day' motion a while back, which also got absolutely nowhere.

I wish I knew of a way round the thing ...... I can't see it getting any better when the GPs are holding more of the purse strings do they fund X number of strips for a selective group of patients or spend the dosh on eg a phlebotomist to save everyone from their surgery having a 2-day camel ride to the hospital for blood tests?

Signed anyway, as it may get through to the Government that there is a problem. If we keep quiet, then no one will know.

One of the problems is the UKPDS study, from what I can gather, says that the HbA1c is a good measure of any deterioration, but also self testing did not slow down any deterioration. I have read that the reason was the current recommendations were not strict enough at the time and tighter control will slow down or halt any complications. Still trying to find out what is the answer, and I will self test for as long as I can.

Couldn't possibly sign it as the only evidence I have is from this forum. I and other diabetics at my surgery seem to have no problem getting test strips or regular HBa1c tests. Is it really true that Type 2s on insulin find it hard to get strips? because the petition does not differentiate.

This particular petition has been discussed on here before I think.
Its just another badly written petition on this subject - the assertion that many T2s are denied regular HbA1cs is especially ludicrous.

NICE guidelines guarantee test strips to getting on for 70% of T2s - all those on insulin and on sulfonylureas such as Gliclazide. The issue is with newbies who are being told they do not need to test.
