Thanks for this. This is me an I am delighted that there are others out there who have done the same.

I feel like I have stumbled across a secret recipe, hence my enthusiasm an I am altruistic by nature, so want too help my fellow humans! The thing that amazes me is that with the original trust I was with, they went down the route of medication and advising me to lose weight. They were not very proactive, with me at least, and it was a disease that I had end that was going to get progressively worse. I even remember asking about Doctor Taylor and my request was met with a response that was far from positive.

The trust I am with now are totally different. They have been simply amazing. They have empowered me and helped me walk down the road to remission. I can never thank them enough.

My big thing at the moment is mental health and diabetes. I have actually just been accepted on an MSc Psychology (Conversion) because I want to qualify as a clinical psychologist and specialise in mental health and diabetes. I have been there and know the effects this disease has on your physical and mental health.

Good luck to everyone and we can all improve together.

Good luck on your course @abtastic!

Great that you have decided to specialise in MH and diabetes - there is a real need for that sort of support - and not enough practitioners.

You have done fantastically well @abtastic and it is wonderful that you want to help others and I hope you are successful in your goals. It would be interesting to know which trust has been so proactive, so that if others are local to it they might be able to swap..... not sure if that is allowed within the rules of the forum @everydayupsanddowns .... can you advise.

I do think in some respects that you are preaching to the converted, as many members here on the forum have followed a similar journey with equally good results, but there is no harm in publishing more posts on this so that others will see them and be motivated to change their lives too. I totally agree that self help is hugely important and why so many of us here have been successful and learned so much.... we are here because we want to learn and improve our diabetes control and help others.

Please keep us updated with your progress and very best of luck with your studies as mental health support is a much needed resource.

I think probably best to limit it to a more general geographical location.

We have rules against singling out any individual HCP for criticism (or even praise!). And I think the challenge is probably similar when naming a trust.

@abtastic might post a glowing account of care at Hospital A, only for a new member to register who says that they were awful, negligent and had caused them major problems... It becomes impossible to moderate fairly and not leave something potentially libellous on the forum without seeming to dismiss one member’s experience over another, but while having no firm evidence or ability to unpick it!
