That’s great news @TwilightMidna ! I know it must also be a bit scary, but I’m sure you’ll be started on moderate doses, and the Libre will allow you to monitor things closely. Take it slowly and carefully; get hypo treatments in, along with carby snacks as top-ups; and ask anything you want here.
Thank you @Inka, I appreciate this encouragement and reassurance. I will most definitely be asking more questions going forward ! I’ll keep you all updated on how things go next week x

@everydayupsanddowns, thank you so much. Spoke with my GP today and he is calling it LADA. After a discussion, we decided I would start on a basal/bolus routine next week, along with a Freestyle Libre. I have been referred to a specialist but apparently the appointment may not be for 6-12 months. I have to say the relief has swiftly passed and I was up all night feeling anxious. Trying to take things one step at a time (trying being the operative word!). Thanks for your support x

Great news @TwilightMidna

Hope being able to ’take the reins’ and begin to steer your diabetes with insulin, and start to actively play a part in managing it yourself will help the relief come back.

Hi everyone! Another update from me. I have been prescribed Lantus (9 units) and NovoRapid (1 unit to 20g carbs). My GP says these are very conservative insulin recommendations and will almost definitely have to be increased. I'm relieved they are conservative as I have been quite anxious about going low. He also said I can start on just the Lantus for one week so I can ease myself in to everything, so I have decided to do that. He also advised me to eat around 200g carbs a day, which is a bit of a change from the 60g I was eating to try to control my blood sugar levels. I have had a "normal" breakfast this morning and feel pretty horrible with the higher blood sugar. I guess this will help me learn that I actually do need insulin, and need the bolus doses alongside the basal ones. Hope everyone is keeping as well as possible!

Great update @TwilightMidna 🙂 Yes, you’ll need the bolus insulin. When I was first diagnosed my basal dose was much smaller than my bolus dose. I really needed the insulin to cover my food mainly. I hope you feel a lot better once you can eat properly.
