Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I'm going to Mexico soon and we're flying with Thomson. Has anyone ever tried their 'diabetic' meals? I'm not sure whether to bother ordering it as normally the stuff labeled as diabeteic isn't that good for you.

Any suggestions out there??

Everything I have read about 'diabetic' airline meals says to avoid them like the plague 😱 I would just go for the ordinary stuff, you will get more choice and by all accounts the airlines often have very strange ideas about what a person with diabetes can eat.

Do not bother with diabetic airline food. I see you are a Type 1 so just wait for the meal to arrive at your seat. Open everything to see what you have been given. Do a quick calculation in your head and do your injection. Dont worry if anybody sees you they will be getting stuck into their meal anyway. With and luck you will have an enjoyable meal. Buy a non diet drink after security in duty free just in case you go hypo during the flight. Airline crew are trained to help you if you do. Have a FAB time Vanessa!

went to mexico myself on some spanish airline from madrid just ate what was given with a guess to insulin... had sweeties with me from duty free in case of hypo... there was only one member of staff who spoke any english... was apprehensive but all ok have a great time

Remember Mexico is going to be HOT! You will have to cover up to avoid sunburn and drink lots of water till you become accustomed to the heat. I carry my holiday insulin in a Frio cool bag have you got one? Take a look at this....

I remember Mexico it was when i came back from there i was diagnosed type2. I find my levels go up with the heat have a lovely time

i confess when i was there i didnt have the best control but was aware that short acting requirements can go down in the heat.... our hotel was good there was bottled water everywhere... you do really need a lot more.... enjoy... i would love to go back
