DVLA received my renewal forms on the 15th of Feb and new licence arrived yesterday (24th) so 9 days which included a weekend. Taking into account 2 days for delivery as well that's 5 working days on their part. 10/10 to DVLA.

They'd obviously heard about you Sue, and pulled out all the stops! 🙂
Lol, I must admit I thought they would make enquiries this time due to having to declare seeing a neurologist. But nope all ok have been given a 3 year licence and not the new 10 which again didn't surprise me due to being on insulin for 51 years and in a way very pleased that they did.

I know this was a while ago but very positive ! Good news Sue

Being as Hobie resurrected this - what's that about 10 year licences? ( I mean I won't get one when I renew next year cos I'll be 67 and everyone's runs out on their 70th birthday LOL)

Got my new licence today, like Pumper Sue, it only took them five working days, and that included updating my photo as well this time.
Always a relief to get it, and realise I didn't omit anything/put anything stupid on the form!

your lucky i sent my application form in April and i received my licence in August.........after 2 medicals......

Experience has led me to have very low expectations when it comes to government departments. These days it seems that the DVLA is regularly bucking this trend. My problem was being mis-diagnosed as a type one and, having embarked on a very strict diet and exercise regime, getting myself off medication completely. The DVLA form had no box for 'diet and exercise only' so I drew in my own box and put a tick in it. I expected this to be a problem and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not.

LOL - my own GP mentioned he'd done an HGV medical once and when he got to the question asking if the persons BP was below X over Y, he reported the actual numbers because the blokes BP was marvellously low and stable so he answered eg 119/57.

DVLA returned the form to him with their standard letter saying he hadn't answered Question whatever - the BP one. The absolutely ONLY answers they can understand in response to this query are either 'Yes' or 'No'. So he altered it to 'Yes' dated and initialled and stamped the alteration and sent it back. Nope - they wanted the WHOLE form completed again. So nearly a month has gone by, by this time for no proper reason whatever. And the bloke's livelihood depends on his licence being renewed ........

Don't worry, he's legally entitled to drive while all this beaurocracy grinds through. My 3 year licence was delayed by something or other a few years back, and phoned them and that's what they told me.

LOL Mike - yes - but they can only tell you that your are legal in the UK. You may not be legal to go anywhere else and drive - bit hard if you are off to Spain and want to hire a car or are that chap and were employed on continental haulage!

There is nowhere you can find out about the position in other countries, readily.

This is why I hate driving medicals even though we get plenty of time allocated to do HGV/ PSV medicals
