Impact of keto diet (mega-low/no carb) on pre-Diabetes?

It's also very easy to take someone in instant dislike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉😉

(Like people who find exercising five days a week a doddle!!!!!)

(It's always been a question for me - am I lazier than I'm greedy, or greedier than I'm lazy? Never can decide!)

Well done, though, on getting everything so under control - shows it can be done, which is always encouraging.
I didn't increase my exercise levels at all yet still lost weight and put T2 into remission without being hungry either...

I suspect it's human nature to want to be fit and healthy without any effort, and a piggy diet (if only!)

People out there will sell books on how to do it to anyone.
It's down to ourselves to decide what matters, for me it was a lifestyle change, not just a focus on BG numbers.

Browsing books in WHSmith this morning whilst waiting on post office to open, seen there was book called The fast 800 Keto Recipes at half price if anyone is interested.

Welcome to the forum @Callista

Hope you can find a way of eating that works for you.

Over the years we've had many people arrive on the forum having been told they are at risk of diabetes who have used a number of different strategies (including moderate carb, and low carb, and weight loss) to effectively reduce their glucose levels.

If your current approach is working for you, keep going! Though you may find that aiming for ketosis is not necessary in your case (you say you've already oscillated between high 30s and low 40s with little effort) - if you are finding keto difficult to maintain, perhaps mid-low carb might be a better fit and similarly effective?

Gosh, that sounds grim indeed! I know in the end the docs have to make a call based on stats but of course individuals can react differently.

My GP, in our 'pre-D2' conversation said that Ace inhibitors (which is what I'm on, and have been for 14 years, for bp) protect the kidneys, whereas statins protect the heart.

I sort of feel statins are the 'next step' in and more heavy duty, which is why, ideally, I'd like to stick with what I've got. I would certainly like to get fitter first, ie, irrespective of being pre-D2, to get what improvement in heart function I reasonably can with sustainable effort.

I take it you came off statins after your dreadful experience?!

Bulkbiker - sounds good! Well done. 🙂

NTW - not sure I can face 800 cals on any kind of diet at all!!!! (Not even the All Day Chocolate Diet!!!!)

Everyday - yes, there's no hard and fast rule, is there, just what each individual can cope with, and the effect it has. Horses for courses etc. I think, too, that, as I'm doing at the moment, there are times when we are tougher on ourselves, and times we can relax back, providing not too much, and providing we can 'go tough' for a while again if needed. I'm certainly hoping to be able to go low/med carb once I've tackled down the BG/HbiAc levels. And I am definitely looking forward to a glass of chilled, dry white wine sometime!!!!!

A glass?

Well, I've been teetotal since shortly after New Year (finished the bottle of wine, and never opened another since!). I still can't believe it, actually, as I've never been this dry for well, can't remember really.....

So I'm a little anxious that the moment a drop of alcohol hits my system I'll be instantly drunk!!!!! (Or, probably worse, will instantly release the 'booze monster' and crave the entire bottle!!!)
