I'm so scared

I'm also rooting for you and looking forward to reading an update tonight where you are feeling relieved and perhaps excited about going back in tomorrow.
I am a real worrier too so I know you can easily think of all the bad things that could go wrong to the point that you can't imagine actually enjoying it or finding things that you can do well, but those are actually far more likely than all the terrible things you worry might happen.
Keeping fingers crossed that you will be able to tell us all what you learned and what you enjoyed about it later today.
Don't forget that everyone makes mistakes. It is human to do so, but don't let fear of those mistakes prevent you from achieving things or enjoying life. You actually learn more from mistakes, so they can in fact be a good thing as long as you don't make the same mistake time and time again.
Thank you so much rebrascora that's such a lovely message to come home to.The staff were lovely but I'm worried I acted like an idiot not knowing anything and did silly things x

I am glad (but not surprised) the staff were lovely.
They would not expect you to know everything on your first day and your course must think you are ready for this placement if they placed you. They do not think you are an idiot.

We all do silly things, especially when we don't have any experience and therefore can't be expected to know what we are doing. I have never handled a human baby or changed a nappy, so I would be well out of my depth in that situation, furthermore I would not want to have that experience. I am assuming, since this is a career choice for you, that you like babies and children but just don't have any experience with babies until today. I am sure you will learn lots and it will be interesting.
What did you get to do today?

Thank you so much mainly observed the children helping them and learnt from staff I'm not allowed to do certain things being a student x

Well, hopefully you now feel more confident knowing that you will not be asked to do anything that you have worried could go wrong. Gradually you will learn more from the staff and will be more confident helping the children. Are you feeling as anxious about going tomorrow as you were this morning.... and the last few weeks? Hopefully not and that will improve as each day goes on. It is often the unknown which is most scary for us as it is all too easy to imagine the worst. Now you have an idea of what you will be expected to do, tomorrow you can relax a bit and the more relaxed you are the more you will learn. If I am anxious I can't take in what people tell me, but once I am more relaxed/less anxious, everything seems much easier.
You are clearly a very caring and responsible person because otherwise you would not be worrying or anxious about making a mistake. Those are good qualities that are important in life and the working environment. You just lack confidence and that comes with more experience and you are doing this placement to get more experience, so you are working on that.
Well done getting there and doing your first day. It must have taken a lot of courage to push yourself to go this morning when you were so terrified, so that (courage) is another very positive trait and a huge achievement.

Thank you so much rebrascora. I'm not as anxious and it take lots going in thank you.im scared about being watched Wednesday by my tutor but staff have suggested doing a sensory tray and physical activity tunnel tent and soft play.thank you this means so much so thank you for your kind words I really appreciate it x

Oh that is a shame that you feel like that! I thought you were feeling a bit better after today. Don't you want to work with children?

Hope today goes well and helps you to feel a little less anxious for tomorrow. I must say, an assessment so soon after starting (although I know it is just a week's placement), does seem like it hasn't given you time to learn but I expect they take that into consideration. If you focus on the children/babies you are working with and their response to you which of course is what you should be doing, you will hopefully forget the assessor is there, but I can understand you being anxious about it as that is normal, although obviously you are suffering more anxiety than is healthy at the moment but as you develop experience and confidence, that will hopefully reduce significantly.
Have you met the assessor before? Are they one of your tutors or a stranger?

I don't know how much study you have done to get here. It is fine to accept you have made a mistake and change direction. However given your age think very carefully as to what you want to achieve. Wanting to work with that age group is something many people find rewarding albeit hardwork. Is there anyone who can bolster your confidance? It is such a shame if your energy and enthusiasm is being drained by self doubt.
You are worried by being judged which suggests to me you want to do well not that you don't care.

I would suggest you do your best to learn from and enjoy this experience. It is not very long and will help you judge what you want to achieve. You are not going to be judged by the babies. The people who are watching you want you to do well. I'm sure they will be happy to give you feedback which can be helpful and should not be viewed negatively.

I am sure you will relax as you feel part of a team and get to know the little ones.

I don't think it has been described as an assessment.
Corriefan mentioned their tutor will be observing.
This may be to adjust their own training technique, or the appropriateness of the placement for future people as much as corriefan's learning.
